JJ Redick responds to LeBron James critcism after controverisal free throw miss
LeBron James had an outing he would like to forget as soon as possible. The King ended the game with just 11 points on 3-14 shooting from the field. But the cherry on top was the penultimate possession of the game. James was sent to the free throw line for two shots by the Phoenix Suns, as they trailed by 3 points. After sinking the first shot, James’ decision on the second shot drew the ire of fans. But it seems like his coach, JJ Redick, is not ready to throw his star under the bus.
With just 6.8 seconds remaining in the game and the Lakers down two points without any timeouts, James decided to deliberately miss the second free throw. The ball rocketed off the bottom of the ring into the hands of Suns defenders to seal the game.
LeBron James has come under scrutiny for deciding to miss the shot instead of playing out the game. However, his HC JJ Redick came out in support of the superstar and called it his decision to miss the shot.

With just 6.8 seconds left in the game, perhaps the Lakers truly had no other choice. The team was out of timeouts, and Suns HC Mike Budenholzer had already made the call to intentionally foul up while up 3 points. The only opportunity the Lakers stood at potentially tying or winning the game would come from grabbing an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and scoring again to offset the possession game.
Unfortunately, it was not to be for LeBron James and the Lakers. James ended the game a -17 from the floor, the only Laker starter to finish the game with a negative plus-minus.
JJ Redick claims responsibility following Suns’ loss
Following the game, JJ Redick did not mince his words about the Lakers’ first loss of the season. Prior to the start of the season, Redick had already mentioned his dismay at the thought of losing a game. The Lakers had the dream start to the season with 3 wins on the trot. However, the first loss of the season came off as a test to see the patience of the first-time coach in the NBA.
Redick did not throw his team under the bus and took responsibility for the issues the Lakers saw tonight. For his first test, he seems to have passed with flying colours. On the bright side for JJ Redick and the Lakers, Anthony Davis continued his dominance to start the season. After being named Western Conference Player of the Week prior to the game, The Brow ended his night with 29 points, 15 boards and 3 blocks, nearly leading the team to a win.
