LeBron James and Steph Curry

Stephen Curry and his father, Dell Curry, discussed various topics on their podcast, Heat Check on Audible, including Curry’s early connection with LeBron James. Although Curry didn’t grow up in Akron like James, he spent the first two years of his life there and had only visited twice since 1988.

One of those visits was in 2009 when LeBron James invited Curry to his home in Akron before their first face-off in the NBA. Stephen Curry was thrilled to accept the invitation and spent time at James’ house, even bowling in his basement with James’ kids, Bryce and Bronny.

I am in the hotel the night before the game and he hit me like and he was like ‘You wanna come over to the house?’ … He got like a bowling alley in his basement. Did that. Bryce and Bronny were running around the house, little kids. That was the first time that I’ve been back to Akron. It was cool because the connection between me and him, we didn’t know what was in store. That was in ’09.

Curry and James started a friendship in 2008, and their bond grew stronger over the years. However, it wasn’t until 2015, when their teams faced off in the NBA Finals, that they realized the significance of their Akron connection.

Since then, Curry and James have faced off 52 times, with Curry holding a 29-23 record, including 17 playoff wins. Despite their intense rivalry, they have maintained a strong friendship, with Curry acknowledging the special connection they share as two of the greatest basketball players from Akron.

Stephen Curry opens up about teaming up with LeBron James before retirement

The Golden State Warriors explored the possibility of trading for LeBron James at last year’s deadline, but the discussions didn’t progress as James wasn’t interested in joining the team. Despite James previously mentioning that Steph Curry is the one player he’d like to team up with, it seems that was a hypothetical statement, as both players are content with their current teams.

Obviously you just want to play around greatness and see that kind of talent on display every single night. That would be interesting. Maybe we'll get that - not in the NBA, but maybe on a Team USA type vibe before we get out of here. That would be awesome.

On his Heat Check” podcast, Curry also addressed the idea of playing alongside James, stating that he looks forward to doing so in a Team USA capacity, not in the NBA. Curry expressed admiration for James’ talent and the opportunity to play alongside greatness, but emphasized that it would be in an international setting, not in the NBA.

Curry and James will lead Team USA’s roster at the Paris Olympics, where top NBA players will represent their countries. This will be a unique chance for fans to see the two legends play together, showcasing their skills on the global stage.
