In his 22 seasons as a basketball player, LeBron James has witnessed the rise of the WNBA. Players such as Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese, and others have helped fuel growth which has transcended expectations.
In the midst of that growth, many have fallen by the wayside, but Wilson and her Las Vegas Aces have defied early season struggles to surge their way to the WNBA Finals.
On their way there, they were given a scare by an Indiana Fever team playing without Caitlin Clark and five other important players. But since stepping back into the grandest stage, the team has proved they are a cut above their opponents.
In the first game of this newly-introduced best of 7 series, the Aces did enough in the 4th quarter to win and take the series lead. Two days later, the Mercury simply did not have an answer and lost by double-digits.
In Game 3, Phoenix fans came out in hordes to support their players, and even though the Mercury struggled in the first 3 quarters, they mounted a furious comeback attempt in the 4th, outscoring the Aces by more than double their production.
This set the stage for a tense final few minutes. The Phoenix Mercury battled and tried to find a way to win in front of their ardent fans. They tied the game and continued to do so for nearly 2 minutes.
In the final 5 seconds with the game still tied at 88 a piece, all the home team had to do was stop the Aces. Then, A’ja Wilson received the ball and dribbled towards the rim.

When she faced double-team pressure from the league’s power couple Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner, the 4-time MVP spun around, jumped off her pivot foot and shot the game-winner.
A’ja Wilson’s heroics brings praise from all quarters
The WNBA has been mired by controversies throughout these WNBA Finals. Despite that, the opening two games managed to draw a lot of viewers. It seems everyone was watching the 3rd game as well.
That is what their reactions revealed when NBA superstar LeBron James first retweeted a Nike post appreciating A’ja Wilson’s heroics. Others had similar reactions watching the 2-time champion elevate above everyone else and lead her team to victory.
Her 34 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks were enough to avoid the Phoenix Mercury getting a win and stretching the series. Fans felt Wilson delivered as what is expected from the league’s best player. Check out examples of those reactions below.

When looking at her game logs in their closing 16 games of the regular season, as well as the playoffs, there is no doubt that A’ja Wilson is playing as if she is possessed. She tops quite a few statistical categories, and will rightfully earn her 2nd Finals MVP.
A’ja Wilson claims this was the better of her WNBA Finals game-winning shots
After the game, it was natural that reporters would want to speak with A’ja Wilson. Since that difficult over two defenders shot ended up being the game-winner, she was in the right spirits to talk about it. Reporters asked if this was better than he Game 3 shot from 2023.

That’s tough… This one gotta be over that one, only because we got the dub. It was the one kind of sealed Game 3 for us, and we’ve never won a Game 3 under Becky Hammon before.
A’ja Wilson told reporters
The end of her answer sent the room full of reporters into splits, as Wilson had just trolled her head coach who was sitting beside her in this press conference.

The Aces will be back at work, figuring out how to stop the Phoenix Mercury repeating their 4th quarter comeback attempt. Only then can A’ja Wilson and her team call themselves champions for the 3rd time in 4 years.
