The most important storyline surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers is about the future of LeBron James, after he indicated he could move out unless the franchise surrounds him with a competitive team. Reporters, looking to gather information, asked his son, Bronny James, about it.
The 20-year-old has denied discussing the matter with his father and reiterated that his older teammate has asked him to focus on his development and career. With Summer League starting, the 2nd year player wanted to deflect the noise.
This season, the Lakers were rumored to be looking to deploy Bronny James more in their rotation. The USC star knows he still has to prove to his coaches that he deserves to be called on to handle the game. Last season, his performances against the Milwaukee Bucks was the highlight of his young career.
This season, all eyes were on the combo guard to see how he fares in the Summer League games. He sat out of the first one as the Lakers gave opportunities to other players on their training camp roster. In Game 2, against the Miami Heat, it was his time to make a statement.

In the 2nd possession of the game, James Jr. noticed how Kasparas Jakucionis was struggling to get the ball up the court. He tipped the ball out of the Heat player’s hands, gathered the ball and raced towards the basket.
Even though there was another opponent trying to slow him down, Bronny James took the ball into his right hand and took off from almost outside the paint. He finished with a thunderous tomahawk dunk, very similar to someone else named James.
Bronny James’ tomahawk dunk hypes father LeBron James and fans
Naturally, with his son debuting in this season’s Summer League, his father LeBron James was going to be glued to the television. As soon as Bronny James threw down this tomahawk dunk, the 40-year-old was one of the first to post screenshots of it on his IG.

Soon, fans followed to praise his 20-year-old son for imposing his will on the game. That dunk screamed of confidence, something he severely lacked in last season’s edition of this offseason tournament. That confidence helped him score 10 points in 10 minutes.
Fans were happy that the sophomore has got into his rhythm early and is making a case to be one of the prime rotational pieces off the Los Angeles Lakers’ bench. They believe this is going to be his season to prove his doubters wrong. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Bronny James might continue to face criticism from many corners of the basketball world. He has to be ready to face brickbats whenever he has a bad game. His father has faced those, and it is highly possible that media and fans would turn on him.
Bronny James knows what he has to concentrate on
Bronny James knows the critics will be looking to pinpoint deficiencies in his game, even though he is just in his 2nd season. Reporters at Los Angeles Lakers practice asked the 2nd year guard if he is looking to become a 10–15-point scorer off the bench.
I can’t lose that defensive drive that will get me on the floor, because there are going to be guys who can score 15, 20 a game. I’m most likely not going to be that guy right now. To get myself on the floor, I’ve got to be a defensive menace. That’s my main focus.
Bronny James said
The 20-year-old believes his focus is primarily on the defensive side, as that is what will get him the minutes, he needs to get comfortable on the floor. Once he gets those minutes, if he scores a few points, it will be a good way to enhance his NBA career.
Bronny James knows the role that will earn him minutes: “I can’t lose that defensive drive that will get me on the floor, because there are going to be guys who can score 15, 20 a game. It seems the USC star is aware of what he needs to do to become a consistent contributor on this Lakers team. He is focusing on his defense this season, and could take the step as a scorer once his father leaves the team.
