Ever since LeBron James joined the Los Angeles Lakers, the franchise has enjoyed a monumental increase in media coverage, revenue generation, as well as fan interest across the globe.

Franchise owner Jeanie Buss was one of the poorest team owners in the NBA, but that revenue helped her and her family do well for themselves over the decades they have helmed the team.

They, along with the rest of the Lakers’ top brass, knew that James’ time is also winding down, and they need another superstar to become the face of the franchise.

In came Luka Doncic via that tremor-inducing trade this past February. The Lakers already enjoyed their numero uno status as the most followed team. But this trade catapulted them to another level.

The lines to purchase the Slovenian’s new purple and golf jersey, along with the rise in ticket prices, confirmed that his arrival will continue fan interest in the Lakers.

This trade might have also been a catalyst for the unreal $10 billion valuation the franchise enjoys after its stake sale to Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter.

The interest in this franchise has also had an impact on the rest of the league. The NBA as a whole garnered more fan interest than ever before, as the better-than-expected NBA Finals viewership ratings confirmed.

Next season, the interest, along with that in the New York Knicks, has seen average ticket prices soar to $1,138 for their clash at Madison Square Garden on February 1st. That happens to be the highest average ticket price in the league.

Lakers vs. Knicks could be a battle for the ages

The Los Angeles Lakers are gearing toward a life without LeBron James. The 40-year-old has given subtle hints about possibly retiring after the 2025-26 season.

That should explain why the franchise has focused much of its offseason on building a team around Luka Doncic. However, they are not juxtaposing their roster in a manner that would allow them to fight for the title.

Once head coach JJ Redick gets his vision through, it should not be long before the Lakers are competitive. This should set things up for their February 1st clash at Madison Square Garden.

New York Knicks fans were disappointed with their team’s performance in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, they do know that the team under new head coach Mike Brown could take the next step.

The roster has seen some important additions, and some analysts believe fans in the Big Apple could finally celebrate an NBA championship win.

The clash, set to take place in the Mecca of basketball, could be an all-timer. Doncic and James against Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and the others could be the game of the season.

Lakers vs. Knicks clash could set up LeBron James’ swansong

This Los Angeles Lakers vs. New York Knicks clash on February 1st could be the best start to the month for LeBron James. It will be the second last road game before he and his teammates return home for an 8-game stretch.

Those games at Crypto.com will flank the All-Star weekend to be held in the neighboring Intuit Dome on February 15th. Many believe the 40-year-old superstar has designed his retirement around this All-Star game.

Being in Los Angeles would be the best way for James to call it quits on his legendary career. Lakers fans, as well as those of the Clippers, will be in attendance. Along with his family, this could be the best send-off for arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, players in league history.
