LeBron James and son Bronny made NBA history when they shared a court against the Phoenix Suns

The moment fans had been eagerly awaiting finally arrived as LeBron James and his son Bronny James made NBA history by playing together for the first time during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 118-114 preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns. After the game, the four-time NBA champion shared how much the moment meant to him.

Before the game began, both LeBron James and Bronny James were informed by Lakers coach JJ Redick that they would likely share court time. Though they played together for only a few minutes, there were standout moments, such as when they worked together defensively and discussed a controversial call.

For a father, it means everything… someone who didn’t have that growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids and have influence on your son. Be able to have moments with your son. And ultimately, to be able to work with your son. I think that’s one of the greatest things that a father can ever hope for or wish for.

King James started strong in the game alongside teammate Anthony Davis, as they both led the Lakers offensively in the first half before sitting out the second. While Bronny didn’t score and struggled with turnovers, he has gained the respect of his teammates and coaches for his defensive commitment and work ethic.

Despite the challenges, Bronny has remained composed throughout his transition into the professional league. And while he isn’t expected to be a main figure, he has the opportunity to develop himself further with time spent at the G-league.

Bronny James opens up on making history with his legendary dad

LeBron James wasn’t alone, as Bronny James also reflected on his experience playing alongside his father. He shared his thoughts on staying grounded amidst the historic moment, as he is focused on his journey to the league after overcoming cardiac arrest in 2023 during an offseason workout at USC.

I’m always thinking about ‘That’s my dad’ because that’s literally my dad. So I just go out there and, when I’m playing, he’s just my teammate. That’s all I’m thinking at that point.

The game saw King James contribute with 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists. But it wasn’t so great for Bronny who scored just two points on 1/7 shooting across two games.

Despite the offensive struggles, Bronny is committed to improving his game and earning more minutes on a Lakers team with playoff aspirations. He will aim to continue his development in the Lakers’ next preseason game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
