The idea of LeBron James and Luka Doncic as teammates is slowly sinking in for NBA fans. The Slovenian seemed heartbroken to fans in his first press conference for the Los Angeles Lakers. However, more smiles started coming in as Doncic sat on the bench during the Clippers matchup. The former Mavericks star seemed excited by his new teammates. But reportedly the ‘King’ had a special message for Doncic.
Luka Doncic was cheering his new partners, Bronny James, and Jaxson Hayes for their incredible plays in the win. Hence, it was unsurprising when the 25-year-old clapped for his idol scoring an and -1. According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, LeBron James gave Doncic his ‘Welcome to the team’ moment while celebrating his field goal plus the foul. Windy was speaking about the incident during First Take. “You know what he does here? He looks over at Luka and says ‘That’s what we’re gonna do‘,” Brian Windhorst said.
James himself was taken aback by the trade and believed it was a ’hoax’. Despite departing from his friend Anthony Davis, the leading scorer is ready for the next chapter. Doncic has been among the top players in the league for the past few years. The star and the Lakers veteran can certainly create something special in LA. James is set to welcome Doncic as he teased their debut writing ‘coming soon’ on his Instagram.

Doncic’s entrance in the purple and gold seems more real than ever. The MVP runner-up posed for photos in his new threads and also started practicing with the squad. The athlete is an excellent playmaker and unbeatable scorer. James on the other hand, dominates on defense as well as offense. The point guard and forward on-court chemistry would certainly be a treat for fans.

Like all the members of the NBA world, the players involved in the trade had a hard time digesting the sudden transition. As the players were getting used to the change, it seemed that the idea was already in both James and Doncic’s minds. An old clip of the 40-year-old went viral where he expressed his desire to play with ‘Luka Magic’. But now, the Slovenian has also admitted his dream.
A few years back, Doncic was a guest on his new head coach JJ Redick’s podcast. During the episode the 2024 Western Conference Finals MVP talked about James being the only player he watches. As the Lakers introduced Doncic, the star was asked about the journey from then to now sharing the court beside the veteran. The newcomer could not help but gush over the amazing opportunity.

Considering the enthusiasm from both new teammates, their first game together would gather unreal attention. Doncic’s injuries were revealed as a reason for his trade. Even though the star has not played since Christmas, the Lakers’ newest addition might play his first game this week. Doncic’s is anticipated to gear up against the Pacers on Saturday.
