LeBron James will serve as the flag-bearer for the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics. It is a historic honor that marks him as the first men’s basketball player to do so. The Los Angeles Lakers star was nominated by his Olympic teammate Stephen Curry and voted in by his fellow Olympians.

James has competed in three previous Olympics, winning gold in 2008 and 2012 and bronze in 2004. This will be his first Olympics since 2012, and he is joined by fellow legends Steph Curry and Kevin Durant on Team USA. James issued a remarkable statement to the press about the honors.

I understand how prestigious this moment is, and for someone to be the flag-bearer and wave the flag for not only us as a men's national team but for all the Olympians, I hold that with the utmost honor. It's definitely something that my family and my community and my friends, it's something that will live on forever. Super appreciative and super humbled by it.

The 2024 Summer Games may be the last time this generation of basketball stars competes together in international play, as all three will be in their late 30s or early 40s by the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. James has already confirmed that he will not compete in 2028.

The opening ceremony for the 2024 Summer Games will take place on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET, where LeBron James will lead the US delegation as flag-bearer. This honor is a testament to James’ achievements and leadership on and off the court, and he will undoubtedly proudly represent the United States at the Olympics.

LeBron James selected by Team USA as flag bearer for Paris 2024 Olympics through player vote

LeBron James was chosen as the flag bearer for the United States delegation during the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, as decided by a vote among nearly 600 members of Team USA. This honor recognizes James’ leadership and dedication to his sport and community, both on and off the court.

James’ teammate Steph Curry, as earlier reported, nominated him for the position, where he acknowledged his achievements and character. Curry surprised James with the news in a heartwarming moment.

As a four-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, James becomes the first man and third member of USA Basketball to be selected as flag bearer, joining Sue Bird and Dawn Staley. James hopes to lead the USA to another win against the world champions Germany after escaping a near defeat at the hands of Olympic basketball debutants South Sudan.
