Today, Austin Reaves broke his duck, landing the first career ejection of his four years as an NBA player. After an outburst over a missed call from the referees, Reaves was animatedly upset at the officials. He was hit with two technical, which is an automatic ejection in the NBA.
AR-15’s early exit from the game in the third-quarter mid have been the reason behind Lakers’ tough loss versus the Charlotte Hornets. After the game, Lakers’ leader, LeBron James was asked to comment his teammate’s first career ejection and what he thought was the rationale behind it. Here’s what the 40-year-old King had to say:
That he said the F-bomb too many times. But he said it in the beginning, and he left it alone. I think [official Rodney Mott] thought he said it again, but he didn’t say it again.

Prior to Reaves getting hit with an unfair ejection, the Lakers were leading 65-60. However, the Hornets suddenly got bodacious and played with much-needed swagger, going on a 23-1 stretch, starting the fourth quarter with a 69-66 lead and essentially winning the road game as massive underdogs.
Not only did Reaves struggle to make a shot, scoring only 8 points in 27 minutes of playing time, but even Luka Doncic hit a slump. The Slovenian national and the new messiah of LA basketball, Luka Magic, had trouble pulling tricks out of his offensive bag, only contributing 14 points in his third outing with his new team.

I get the first one. Obviously, I approached him; I vocally said what I needed to say. And the second one, I was surprised, I’m walking away, and as soon as I heard the whistle, I kind of knew what had happened, but felt like it was quick. I’m walking away. Vando told me after the game that Rodney [Mott] said I said it three times, so I guess that third time is the charm of getting the second tech.

Reaves continued, explaining that although he was wrong for cussing in the direction of the officials, he has heard players say far worse things to refs’ faces without the fear of dealing with the consequences.
On Thursday, the Lakers will fly out to Portland to go head-to-head with the Blazers. Expect Lakers’ HC JJ Redick to make some changes to the lineup and address other team woes, like unnecessary turnovers that are hurting their standings in the West.
