In Short
  • LeBron James sacrificed wine and chocolate chip cookies to maintain peak performance in his 23rd NBA season.
  • The Lakers are eager for James to continue playing, with hopes he will retire as a Laker.
  • James emphasized the importance of team health for the Lakers' championship aspirations amid ongoing injury challenges.

There is no doubt that LeBron James is a freak of nature, as he has dumbfounded fans, the media, and former players by continuing to perform at a high level in season 23. No other player in league history has been able to perform this well at this age, leaving many to still gasp at the conditioning process the 41-year-old follows.

He was an early adopter of the latest technology and training methods to ensure he was at his peak every time he was on the floor. But this time, he has had to let go of a few things that were a part of his life until before the start of the 2025-26 season.

I gotta sacrifice something, and I actually did two things that I very love, and that is drinking wine and my chocolate chip cookies. I completely took it out… I didn’t have my first drink and my first piece of dessert until New Year’s.

LeBron James revealed

This was the four-time champion’s answer when Mind the Game co-host Steve Nash asked whether the rumors were true that LeBron James stopped drinking wine.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar admitted that he did go back to wine and a dessert for New Year’s, but that was it, as he has taken up the challenge of pushing himself.

James did agree that he struggled at times, as there were moments when he wanted a glass of wine or had a cookie, which had been a staple throughout his journey. This might explain why the superstar has lost weight.

Lakers want LeBron James to play 24th season with them

Giving up two of his favorite indulgences was difficult. But LeBron James loves a challenge and is doing what he can to continue playing. Now that he has not set a retirement date for himself, rumors are ripe about his future.

With the situation at the Lakers questionable at best after recent revelations, it seems the franchise still wants its veteran superstar to continue playing at Crypto.com Arena.

If James wants to play a 24th season, he would be welcomed back in L.A., sources told ESPN. Pelinka declared before the start of this season that he would love it if James retired a Laker, and, sources told ESPN, that sentiment was meant to reflect a 2026 retirement or a 2027 retirement, if James intends to extend his career.

Dave McMenamin revealed

ESPN’s Lakers reporter confirming this essentially doubles down on what GM Rob Pelinka said from the start of the season. They want the King back if he wants to continue playing.

However, the league’s all-time leading scorer is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and how this season pans out could play a part in his decision.

LeBron James details the harsh truth about his Lakers

For LeBron James to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers, a lot has to fall into place. One of the ways he could be persuaded would be the possibility of being a championship contender.

We’re playing good ball at times, but the number one important thing of us is back to our is health. We finally got healthy, you know, with AR (Austin Reaves) coming back, then Luka goes down with the hamstring.

LeBron James said

The four-time league MVP was candid when saying that his team’s health has been the biggest obstacle to their goal so far. One or the other has been injured, hampering their chances of building chemistry and finding out problems through repetition.

James acknowledged that this squad lacks the depth needed to fight for a championship, but believes a healthy run could show them possibilities.
