LeBron James has no boundaries set regarding his greatness in and around the sport of basketball. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has been breaking and setting new records literally every season in the league lately. Most recently, James broke yet another record with the Lakers side, creating history in the process.

On Thursday night, James became the NBA’s all-time leader in regular season minutes played, marking yet another significant milestone in his illustrious career. At California’s Golden 1 Center, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Sacramento Kings 113-100, and the team’s best player broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s 35-year-old record.

As per CNN, James entered his 22nd NBA season with 57,437 minutes on the clock. The Lakers claimed that James was only 10 minutes short of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 57,446 minutes. After playing for 34 minutes, he smashed the record in the second quarter and finished the game vs the Kings side with 57,471 minutes.

James also broke Abdul-Jabbar’s previous mark of 66,297 minutes in a game against the Philadelphia 76ers in November 2023, becoming the NBA’s all-time leader in total minutes performed, including playoffs, last season. James is 39 years old and has shown incredible longevity and durability this season, averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and nine assists per game for the Lakers.

In addition to making him stand out in the league, his ability to play at such a high level for more than 20 years serves as motivation for upcoming basketball players. Now, it will be intriguing to watch which record James targets next going forward into the season.

Also, earlier this campaign, the four-time MVP became the first father-son team to play together in an NBA game when he and his son, Bronny James, shared the court.

They both are special, I mean obviously you set your mark in trying to make things happen in the regular season to prepare for the postseason. It’s all part of the process… So they both have a special meaning; you can’t have one without the other.
