When LeBron James and Stephen Curry joined to lead the Team USA Avengers to win gold at the Paris Olympics, the first question everyone had was whether they, along with Kevin Durant, would renew that experience at LA 2028.

This time, the Olympics will be at home, with Team USA facing an even bigger task of maintaining its foothold at the top of international basketball.

The likes of Victor Wembanyama‘s France, Nikola Jokic‘s Serbia, Franz Wagner‘s Germany, Alperen Sengun‘s Turkey, and most importantly, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Canadian national squad are looking to overthrow the Americans.

The cross-border neighbors would love to defeat Team USA in front of their home fans. Keeping that in mind, former NBA star Steve Nash asked James and Curry, while on the Mind the Game Podcast, if they would play in 2028.

You already know my answer to that. I will be watching from Cabo.

LeBron James said

Hearing this, Stephen Curry said:

God-willing, I still have the choice and the physical option to impact the team. I never say never, but I highly doubt it.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has ended any chance of playing in 2028. His longtime rival, and now friend, also almost went down that path.

The only way he plays in LA 2028 is if he is physically able to help Team USA. By then, he will be 40 years old. If injuries catch up, there is next to no chance the Warriors star will play.

LeBron James believes he and Stephen Curry have played their best Olympic game

LeBron James has been a part of the great 2008 Redeem Team, which was just inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, and three other Olympic teams.

For Stephen Curry, on the other hand, the 2024 Paris Olympics were his lone venture onto the biggest sporting stage in the world. James believes nothing can top their experience in France.

We can’t top those last two games. We literally played France in Paris for the Finals.

LeBron James said

He was initially referring to the semi-final game against Nikola Jokic’s Serbia, where the veteran trio of James, Durant, and Curry proved they were still among the best in the world.

Then, to win against France, in front of their home fans, was the icing on the cake. The 40-year-old claimed the only thing that could have topped that game for him would have been if he and the Redeem Team won against hosts China in 2008.

Since that did not happen, this was the best experience on the world stage, and nothing can beat that. Hence, even if the lure of USA Basketball will be there, James would not lace up in 2028.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry recall final moments of Paris gold medal game

As LeBron James mentioned their collective experience in the final two games of the Paris Olympics, Stephen Curry jokingly recalled how the Lakers superstar and Kevin Durant were standing with their arms out as if gesturing for the ball.

The play was the final dagger that sealed their gold medal win. James joked that the Warriors star shot it despite facing heavy defensive cover, whereas he and Durant were wide open.

It is not as if the 4-time league MVP did not know his Team USA teammate was having a hot hand. They had supposedly asked head coach Steve Kerr to run the play, which means Curry was going to get the ball at the end.

As the two joked around about those sequences, Curry remarked on how everything was flowing that night. Finally, they ended the segment with James revealing that it was pure joy to play alongside his longtime rival.
