LeBron James has achieved everything possible in his NBA career, except for one thing: suiting up with his son Bronny. But the Lakers star said he respects whatever decision his son makes, even if it means they never play together.
Bronny James, a senior at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, committed to USC, where he will join the Trojans basketball team next season. He is a four-star recruit and one of the top prospects for the 2024 NBA draft. LeBron, who will turn 40 that year, has a player option for the 2024-25 season with the Lakers. He has previously expressed his desire to play with his son in the NBA, saying in 2022: “My last year will be played with my boy.“
But after the Lakers’ season ended with a sweep by the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals on Monday, LeBron seemed less sure about his future and his son’s. He said he has “a lot to think about” in the offseason, including whether he wants to continue playing.
He also said that he respects his son’s journey and does not want to impose his aspiration on him: “I’ve done what I had to do in this league, and my son is going to take his journey. And whatever his journey, however his journey lays out, he’s going to do what’s best for him… So, just because that’s my aspiration or my goal, doesn’t mean it’s his. And I’m absolutely OK with that.”

LeBron James and Bronny could make NBA history together

James had an impressive season when he was on the court, putting up 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game. But he was sidelined for a month after suffering a foot injury in February that hampered his performance.
His son, Bronny, is making his own mark on the basketball world. The 6-foot-3 guard, who can play both backcourt positions, committed to USC. He is a dynamic scorer who can knock down threes or slash to the rim with flair. He also has good vision and defensive instincts and plays with a lot of intensity and competitiveness.
He picked USC over Oregon and Ohio State and announced his decision on Instagram: “Fight On #committed.” His dad showed his support on social media: “So damn proud of you kid!“
If LeBron and Bronny end up in the NBA together, it would be a historic moment in sports. But LeBron has said that he won’t force his son to follow his path or join him on the same team.
