As most of the notable free agents were off the market, the Los Angeles Lakers shifted their focus to the ones that were still available. Therefore, it was logical for them to pursue DeMar DeRozan. A superstar who was on the list of preferred free agents their leading superstar LeBron James had submitted to the front office. But now, even DeRozan has joined elsewhere.

ESPN insiders Adrian Wojnarowski and Tim Bontemps reported that the Sacramento Kings have made a trade for the Chicago Bulls superstar. The trade required three teams to move assets around. Eventually also benefitted the San Antonio Spurs in the process.

The sign and trade deal means DeRozan moves back to within touching distance of his hometown. But the Los Angeles native would have preferred to join the Lakers. Even LeBron James knew that.

But it shows that the Lakers front office has again lost out on a prized target. DeMar DeRozan has the skills necessary to help James rest enough up until the playoffs. More importantly, he is one of the best clutch closers in the game. But now, the Los Angeles Lakers will have to go up against him in the same conference.

The Lakers lost every single regular season game against the Sacramento Kings. That was before this addition. With DeRozan joining, the men in purple and gold will struggle mightily to try for a win. Fans of the team will be in shambles after this news.

When LeBron James’ list of preferred free agent targets first came out, fans were ecstatic as the fit with each player was right. Fast forward to today, and four of those targets have signed with conference rivals which essentially will make it harder for the team to win consistently in the regular season. That also means that the Los Angeles Lakers are in danger of losing out on even reaching the play-in spots.

No wonder Lakers fans were livid as soon as the news broke out. They could not believe that their team was losing out on all those targets. Check out some of those examples below;
