NBA coach Darvin Ham had an unsuccessful stint with the Los Angeles Lakers. After getting sacked by the Lakers this past season, he has been working as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks.
According to an NBA insider, LeBron James and Co. reportedly ‘hated’ Ham during his time with the Lakers. Ham did not have the smoothest of runs in his stint as a head coach. In fact, given the level of silence that followed his termination, some around the league are beginning to believe that the players weren’t sold on Ham.
There wasn’t one player on the team who posted any message on social media after Darvin was fired, That wasn’t a coincidence.

This showcases the ‘hate’ the Lakers stars had for Ham. As per reports, star defender Anthony Davis wasn’t a big fan of Ham’s defensive tactics going into games. The Lakers have since appointed JJ Redick as the head coach ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. He has set the tone for the team and has received the backing of his players, unlike Ham.
While Ham had good intentions, it soon became clear that he had taken on more than he could handle. Before joining the Lakers, Ham had never held a head coaching role, thus he had to pick up the skills quickly.
At first, Ham’s attempts to lead the Lakers back to the top did see some success. However, as the Lakers lost more games, his choices came under criticism, which ultimately resulted in his dismissal.

During the past 2023-24 NBA season, a lot unfolded with the Los Angeles Lakers. They performed below expectations despite having stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis at their disposal. During the Playoffs, the Lakers faced off against the Denver Nuggets.
In the Game 2 matchup, the Lakers blew away a 20-point lead, which left Anthony Davis furious. This led to the Lakers star calling out his head coach’s tactics. When asked how the Lakers could win the series after falling behind 0–2, he quickly pointed to a problem they must resolve.

Davis was clearly taking a jab at his former head coach Darvin Ham’s defensive tactics. Nevertheless, the Lakers were beaten by the Nuggets in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs.
This capped off a poor season in general for them. It now remains to be seen whether the Lakers will bounce back from a poor 2023-24 season when the new campaign gets underway later this month.
