Former NBA legend, Kendrick Perkins has been making the headlines lately for his recent comments regarding Team USA and world-famous musician Beyonce. Notably, Perkins recently appeared on the NBA Today Show alongside the Ground Zero reporter, Brian Windhorst, discussing Team USA’s squad depth and performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In the most recent NBA Today segment on ESPN, one of the main talking points was when Brian Windhorst brought out a troubling aspect of Team USA’s performance thus far, despite having players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.
They don’t have great chemistry yet. They kind of just run random offense at times, which they’re just sort of going on principles and just trying to make plays off each other, and that’s just the nature of not having time together.Brian Windhorst on the NBA Today Show
However, Perkins did not agree with Windhorst’s take regarding Team USA and let out his views regarding James’ team, comparing them to a “flawless Beyonce.”
This Olympic team, they’re flawless. They’re Beyonce. Okay? They’re flawless.Kendrick Perkins on the NBA Today Show
Perkins’ statement does make sense, regarding the current form that Team USA is in at the Paris Olympics.
In addition, Team USA has won both games by a score of 26 and 17 points, respectively, and has a perfect record thus far. On August 3, they play Puerto Rico, and a victory is the only outcome that is anticipated. Perkins advised Team USA to use caution going forward as they aspire to win a historic 5th Gold medal at the decorated event.
Steve Kerr shares his views on what it’s like to coach Team USA at Paris Olympics
The USA men’s basketball team has been excellent at the 2024 Paris Olympics lately with 2 wins out of 2 matches played. Notably, their head coach, Steve Kerr provided an important take recently on what it is like to coach Team USA and its star-studded players. Kerr claimed that he and his staff just keep it “simple” and do not field players on the court that don’t “compliment each other.”
For us it's very obvious watching games that having guys in their usual roles is very helpful, And so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for us to put our five leading scorers on the floor from an NBA season because those guys don't complement each other well. Just coaching basketball, it's pretty simple for us, regardless of all the noise.Steve Kerr told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst
Notably, Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum did not participate in the opening-round 110-84 victory of Team USA over Team Serbia at the Olympic Games. Joel Embiid did not play in the team’s subsequent game against South Sudan. However, Tatum was in the starting lineup. Hence, it will be interesting to watch how Kerr manages the egos and attitudes of all his star players, especially with the limited game-time offered in this event.
