Team USA basketball has managed to put together a star-studded team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Led by LeBron James, this team can stake their claim as one that can go toe to toe with the original Dream Team. They have no apparent weakness. A perfect combination of size, skill, athletic ability, and experience to manage the nuances of the game.

Among all of them, they still have that one player who is head and shoulders above everyone. So far fans and media have their own opinions. However, the players and coaches in the training camp themselves have voted LeBron James as the best player so far. Orlando Magic and Team USA Select team coach Jamahl Mosley summed up their collective view in this poll conducted by The Athletic:

You feel and see his presence on the court. You see exactly what he’s doing, the way he’s communicating, the way he’s talking, getting guys in position. There’s a level of focus on the seriousness of understanding the moment that he just continues to show.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has shown leadership and the desire to ensure all of them excel in their common goal. Therefore, this vote has not just come about based on any hype.

The 39-year-old got this ball rolling when he recruited the likes of Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and others to join Team USA’s Paris Olympics roster. It is important to note that this is Curry’s first Olympics despite playing at a superstar level in the NBA for so long.

Therefore, it speaks of the superstar’s influence. James managed to assist Team USA director Grant Hill in assembling the strongest team possible. A team that can reestablish the order of America being the greatest basketball nation.

LeBron James and Team USA’s probable starting lineup

Head coach, Steve Kerr has a plethora of options at his disposal. He knows that it will be difficult to keep everyone happy. That head-scratching situation prompted him to field multiple different variations of lineups in the scrimmage games against Team USA Select. Even though he might not reveal the official starting lineup until the Olympics start, these 5 players look increasingly likely to start.

Kerr has 1st hand experience of what the likes of Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry can do. So those two seem to be lock-ins to start, especially given their scoring prowess. Then comes the question of LeBron James. Steve Kerr knows that James as a point forward solves a lot of problems in one go. He is without a doubt the best playmaker on the team. So, if he man’s the point, then that leaves question marks about 4 and 5 positions.

Anthony Davis‘ chemistry with James could get him the nod at the 4. Leaving Joel Embiid as the most likely candidate to start at center. But even then, Kerr could experiment with other iterations based on their performances in the upcoming friendlies. Whatever the lineup, they will be a tough matchup for anyone.
