Legendary trainer Gary Vitti is disappointed with Los Angeles Lakers after rivals Boston Celtics are one win away from 18th NBA title

The crown for most NBA titles is currently shared between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. The Lakers have taken the edge in terms of star power and marketability that has fans viewing them as the best franchise in basketball. But with the NBA Finals underway, the Boston Celtics are looking to snatch away that mantle and establish themselves as the best, a situation that has caused disappointment among the Lakers faithful.

A report by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin covered the emotions several Lakers faithful have been going through watching the Celtics take a 3-1 lead. Notably, legendary trainer Gary Vitti, who spent more than three decades with the purple and gold summed it up well.

Everything is so raw with me right now. The decisions that they’ve made, it makes it really hard to root for the Lakers. Not impossible. But it’s hard. Because you’re torn. Because there’s people that you love that were hurt. But it is impossible to root for the Celtics. If you have any purple and gold in your blood running through your veins, it’d be literally impossible to ever root for the Celtics. And I’m sure they feel the same way about us.

Gary Vitti said

Vitti basically took a shot at owner Jeanie Buss and her executives who take decisions, suggesting that they have let the team lose its shine.

Gary Vitti knows the standards that were the hallmark of the Los Angeles Lakers. He has witnessed the franchise win 11 titles since the 1980’s and tie the Celtics to be best teams in the NBA. But since their last title in 2020, the team has only disappointed.

So much so, that winning their next will require a lot of soul searching and hard decisions—something that Vitti believes have been absent, whereas the Boston Celtics are favorites to win title no. 18. Sadly, it is likely to be in the year Lakers legend Jerry West passed away.

Metta Sandiford-Artest believes Los Angeles Lakers can win title next year

In a continuation of the story, McMenamin met with former Lakers champion Metta Sandimford-Artest. Knowing what is transpiring, the former All-Star has hope.

I think they're going to figure it out. AD's in his prime. That's a really good situation. I could see the Lakers winning the title next year. LeBron is super hungry. I'm not betting against LeBron.
Metta Sandiford-Artest explained

He believes the Los Angeles Lakers are on the verge of righting their wrongs. With the way the duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James played last season, the base is set.

All the team needs to do is to bring out the best from the rest of the players. That task will be the next head coach’s priority. He knows a solid head coach and a hungry LeBron James will push them over the top. But their championship window is closing, fast.

Metta Sandiford-Artest knows a good team when he sees one. He acknowledged that the Boston Celtics will win NBA titles, something they have been setting up for long. However, the Lakers can regroup and keep the Celtics from obtaining bragging rights.
