Leicester City and Manchester United drop points, allowing Chelsea and Liverpool to sniff blood for extra motivation
Liverpool
Liverpool and Chelsea go head to head against each other at Anfield tomorrow as both teams seek to qualify for the Champions League next season. Currently Chelsea is closest to 4th placed West Ham United as they trail them by 1 point with Liverpool a point further. This match could see the winner enter into the top 4 after a long time and if that isn’t motivation enough, then what is?
Thomas Tuchel v Jurgen Klopp in yet another setting in yet another league
Thomas Tuchel was the one who took over the reins at Borussia Dortmund after then manager Jurgen Klopp resigned. They met in the same season with Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager in the Europa League, where Liverpool produced one of their greatest comebacks to win. Later they met in the Champions League with Thomas Tuchel as manager of Paris Saint Germain and Jurgen Klopp still as manager of Liverpool.
Now they meet in the Premier League with Thomas Tuchel as manager of Chelsea, with both managers fighting to guide their team into the top 4. Leicester City and Manchester United drew with Burnley and Crystal Palace respectively and dropped points for a second week running. West Ham United didn’t play midweek and could have a game in hand, but Chelsea and Liverpool would want to look further ahead.
Chelsea trail Leicester City and Manchester United by 6 and 7 points respectively while Liverpool trail the same by 7 and 8 points respectively. A win for Chelsea would see the points gap cut to 3 and 4 respectively while Liverpool could make it 4 and 5 respectively. Liverpool and Chelsea are required to win this match in order to challenge for the top 4 efficiently.
It will be interesting to see how these two teams will take this fixture and to what level they will be serious.
