Leny Yoro signing for Manchester United is easily one of the biggest moves of the 2024/25 transfer window till date. The teenager’s decision to pick Manchester United over the reigning champions of Europe Real Madrid made headlines all across social media. The Red Devils paid a fee that amounted to €62 million in order to complete the center-back’s move to Old Trafford.
The player also made his debut for the club in a 2-0 victory over Rangers FC in a pre-season friendly, just days after signing for the club. Recently, the player revealed what ultimately convinced him to pick United over Madrid. To everyone’s surprise, Yoro pointed to the FA Cup victory over Manchester City, where goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo handed Erik ten Hag‘s side their only trophy of the season.
An FA Cup trophy is no simple achievement, even though a Champions League trophy may appear to be far more lucrative for a new signing.
The fact that Yoro opted to sign for United, who finished 8th in the Premier League last season over UCL winners Real was celebrated enthusiastically by fans on social media.
Fans react to Leny Yoro’s FA Cup claims on social media
Leny Yoro is undoubtedly an exciting talent to watch out for in the 2024/25 season. However, fans are unconvinced following the teenager’s claim that an FA Cup win convinced him to sign for the club. A supporter simply claimed that he was lying to please United fans. Another stated the ‘obvious’, claiming that it was just money that made the player sign for the Red Devils.
Some even pointed out how Yoro mentioned that playing for Real Madrid is his dream. Some laughed at how he could’ve chosen any reason but went with an FA Cup win to justify his choice. Another told him to get used to winning FA Cups because United aren’t winning anything else in the near future.
And money of course.

A fan drew similarities to how every player that sings for Manchester United ends up claiming that it was their childhood dream to play for the club. A few Real Madrid fans breathed a sigh of relief, as they noted how a player with such a mentality will not suit their club. With the departure of Raphael Varane, fans are hoping for Yoro to strike up a partnership with Copa America champion Lisandro Martinez at the back.
