Leon Edwards hasn’t fought since dropping his 170-pound belt in July to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304. Edwards became just the second British fighter to win a UFC title. He shook the MMA world when he knocked out Kamaru Usman with a devastating head kick in August 2022. With everything happening, it seemed like a lifetime ago when Jorge Masvidal got involved in a backstage fight with Edwards.
Coming off four losses, ‘Gamebred‘ plans to return to the octagon soon. Masvidal wants another piece of Leon Edwards this year or the next year. He insists that Rocky has ducked him in the past. Masvidal and Edwards are still frequently asked about it, as the rivalry sparked that day remains unresolved. Now, the Miami native has a plan to settle the rivalry.
I’ll tell you right now, Leon, I will whoop your f*cking ass. Let’s f*cking go. I don’t know maybe Dec. 7 in Vegas, maybe next year at the Super Bowl. I don’t know but I’ll beat the f*ck out of your little skinny ass.Jorge Masvidal via MMA FightingonSBN
The MMA world still remembers the backstage incident between Gamebred and Rocky in 2019. After both men secured victories on the UFC London card, they crossed paths. During a post-fight interview, Masvidal exchanged words with Edwards, then walked up to him and threw punches, leaving Edwards bloodied. This also gave fans the iconic catchphrase, “I gave him a three-piece with a soda.”
The UFC never scheduled a fight between the two, but Masvidal still hopes the matchup will happen. Despite the buzz around this potential matchup, Masvidal recently disclosed that UFC executives rejected his request to face Edwards in his return fight. Speaking of decision-makers, UFC CEO Dana White certainly believes he can do something with this feud.
UFC CEO Dana White keeps options open for Jorge Masvidal’s return
Dana White remains open to the possibility of Masvidal’s return to the Octagon. Recently, White discussed the future of Masvidal, who retired after his loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. While Masvidal announced his retirement, many pointed out that fighters often reconsider their decisions. As was the case with Masvidal, who is seemingly ready to return to the fight game.
Gamebred, a fan favorite and one of the sport’s most recognizable names, brings significant value to the UFC. Known for his aggressive fighting style and his “BMF” title, Masvidal’s star power is undeniable. This keeps the door open for potential blockbuster matchups and grudge fights.
Right now, the welterweight division has yet to book an official title fight. Things will get more clarity in the coming weeks. White did not confirm any specific plans specific to Masvidal’s comeback. But he made it clear that the UFC is open to discussing potential opportunities with him.

Masvidal recently had a boxing bout against Nate Diaz. The bout happened in California and it didn’t go his way. Some people felt the Miami native was robbed in the bout. After testing the realm of boxing, Masvidal wants to return to the UFC. Gamebred still has multiple fights remaining on his UFC contract. As such, his return could happen eventually.
