Part of the reason behind the Kansas City Chiefs’ success has been head coach Andy Reid, who was richly rewarded following the second consecutive Super Bowl victory with the highest-paid coaching contract in the league. This season, the Chiefs are leading with an undefeated record despite Patrick Mahomes not being at the top of his game.

However, coach Reid’s career trajectory has not always been so illustrious, particularly during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite that, LeSean McCoy contended that the Eagles parted ways with Reid too hastily, ignoring his success with them. Even though he went 12–20 in the final two seasons before getting fired, Reid had an impressive record with five NFC championship games and a Super Bowl appearance.

During his appearance with Glory Daze with Johnny Manziel, McCoy– who had his best years under head coach Reid in Philadelphia, admitted being upset with the Eagles front office for letting go of Reid in 2012.

I was so mad when he left. Because all he ever did was win. Every coach ain’t going to win every year, but we were nice when he got there. We got like four, five hundred yards of offense. How’s it Andy’s fault? The defense ain’t playing well. Fumbles, Mike was fumbling, and I might fumble here and there.

McCoy said.

Reid helped the two-time All-Pro reach his full potential. In the six years they were together in Philly, McCoy recorded around 6,000 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns along with his two Pro Bowl selections.

How Andy Reid transformed his career into unprecedented success

Regardless of how bitterly things ended for former NFL Coach of the Year in Philadelphia, if he hadn’t left the franchise he may not have found his way to Kansas City and achieved unprecedented success. He coached the Chiefs to seven consecutive playoff appearances, five consecutive AFC championships, and three Super Bowl victories.

As for this success, the two-time Super Bowl defending champions are leading the league with a 100% record despite dealing with injuries and inconsistency. They are also on their way to the first team with an undefeated record since the New England Patriots in 2007.

The biggest contributors to Reid’s success in Kansas City is an elite roster, especially quarterback Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. They are currently pursuing a historic three-peat this season and are also favorites to win the Super Bowl.
