After Stephen A. Smith, sports analyst LeSean McCoy spoke regarding the ill-treatment of the Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill during his detainment on Sunday. Highlighting the atrocity against Black people in America, the former NFL running back claimed if he wasn’t a superstar athlete, he might not have been alive.
Miami’s victory in the season-opener was overshadowed by the unpleasant incident of the star wide receiver when he was arrested the Sunday morning outside the Hard Rock stadium. Over a simple reckless driving accusation for which Hill could have been released upon a ticket, the Miami police officers forced him on the ground to handcuff him from behind and detained him for two whole hours.
The police reasoned the excessive force saying the Cheetah got into physical altercations with them. However, neither any videos caught by the bystanders nor the bodycam footage showed proof of such aggressive behavior by him. In fact, he was still processing it when asked in the post-game interview and claimed he is finding it very difficult to understand why he was treated in such a manner.
LeSean McCoy condemns police action citing racism in America
Addressing the uncalled action by the police against the eight-time Pro Bowler, McCoy highlighted the bodycam video released on the internet on Monday from which it’s quite evident that Hill became a victim to racism in America after police used excessive force on him, despite him requesting to them to go easy because of his knee surgery.
I’m so mad it happened but on the other side, I am kinda glad that it did happen. Do you know why? [Because] you get to see what’s it like to be a Black Man in America. The difference is this person– this young man that’s getting detained like this is a superstar athlete. So he’s going to continue to have his life because, with somebody else, they might not have their life.LeSean McCoy exclaimed in the recent episode of The Facility
The analyst argued that the way Miami police detained the wideout as shown in the bodycam video; it seemed he had robbed a bank or murdered someone. However, going to such lengths for detainment over a speedy ticket was “crazy.” Although the police department has launched an internal affairs investigation regarding the police officers involved in the incident, Hill’s attorneys have demanded that they get fired.
