“Let’s do this!!” Alexander Volkanovski all in to accept Korean Zombie fight after Holloway pulls out from UFC 272

Alexander Volkanovski- Chan Sung Jung

Seems like Henry Cejudo is again nowhere close to getting his dream comeback fight in Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title. Immediately after it was announced that Volkanovski’s UFC 272 fight, trilogy against Max Holloway has been scrapped off due to Holloway’s injury, the former quickly turned his focus to this veteran of the sport, named Chan Sung Jung, aka The Korean Zombie.

Cejudo was asking for the fight since Volkanovski’s last title defence, but the latter found himself to be in a bigger legacy fight if he fights Jung for his third title defence. However, no deal has been finalized officially but the progress for this fight seems to go in a good direction.

“Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in too for Alexander Volkanovski title fight at UFC 272

It was first seen as if Volkanovski is the one that is initiating the fight with Jung to happen, as was evident from his tweet that said @KoreanZombieMMA Let’s do this!! #UFC272 therefore tagging Jung as well. It was later on understood via sports journalist Ariel Helwani that the booking of the fight is actually a mutual process going on. Helwani took to Twitter to report “Alex Volkanovski wants Chan Sung Jung on March 5, per his manager Ash James. That’s who they want unequivocally. Zombie is in, too, I’m told. Just need to be formally offered at this point.”

Jung last fought in June of 2021 when he defeated Dan Ige via unanimous decision. It’s not very often that we will see Jung in action due to his military duties to his nation but whenever he enters the octagon, he puts on a show to be remembered for ages. The executor of the first and probably the only Twister submission in UFC history, finishing the fight the same way, Jung has some significant victories in his career over Leonard Garcia [via Twister], Frankie Edgar, Dennis Bermudez, Dustin Poirier and Dan Ige.

Now you know how exciting and unpredictable is Jung, is Volkanovski still too great to surpass this potential challenge if the fight happens, or will we see the new and the first South Korean UFC champion?
