“Let’s make it happen” – Stephen Thompson calls for ‘NMF’ vs. ‘BMF’ rematch with Jorge Masvidal
Stephen Thompson and Jorge Masvidal
Stephen Thompson called out Jorge Masvidal after a facile win over Geoff Neal by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 17. The latter was coming off the back of seven consecutive wins but apart from a few bright moments in the final round for him, Thompson was ruthlessly dominant. ‘Wonderboy’ mixed it up and kept alternating between kicks and punches to unsettle Neal throughout the three rounds. The final score by unanimous decision read 50-45, 50-45, 50-45.
Following the fight, Thompson said, “‘Wonderboy’ is still here, baby. That title, in 2021, it’s gonna be mine. You’ll see.” However, the 37-year-old was graceful enough to credit his opponent for giving him a good fight. “Geoff is a tough, tough opponent, man,” Thompson said. “Every time I hit him he felt just like a rock…I hit him with a full on roundhouse kick to the face, to the dome-piece and he just kept on coming.”
Thompson wants ‘NMF’ vs ‘BMF’ 2
Following the conclusion of the fight against Neal, Stephen Thompson called out ‘Gamebred’ Jorge Masvidal saying, “I’m definitely working my way up. Give me somebody. I want to see the ‘NMF’ (Nicest MFer) vs. the ‘BMF,’ (Baddest MFer) baby. Let’s make that happen. Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson vs. Jorge Masvidal 2. I know he’s talking about fighting Colby Covington, but we’ll see.”
It is worth noting that Stephen Thompson defeated Jorge Masvidal the last time the two met in UFC 217, three years ago. However, since then, the latter has gone from strength to strength in UFC and become one of the faces of the sport. Following Thompson’s call-out, ‘Gamebred’ took to Twitter to hint that the rematch might as well happen very soon and in 2021. He tweeted, “2021 #UnfinishedBusiness”
If the NMF vs BMF fight does happen soon, the UFC world is in for a real treat.
