Letsile Tebogo crafted history at the Paris Olympics by beating the favorite, Noah Lyles in the final race of the Men’s 200m. However, he had a very special moment reserved before the race as he replicated Chelsea’s Cole Palmer by folding his hands while braving away the ‘supposed’ cold in front of the lens.

The Botswana sprinter rewrote the record books in the Paris Olympics, finishing the race with an African record time of 19.46 seconds while America’s Kenneth Bednarek clinched the silver with a time of 19.62 seconds. The favorite contender to win gold, the American, Noah Lyles had to finish third with a time of 19.70s. After the race, Lyles said that he tested positive for COVID-19 and competed with all the challenges in swing.

Tebogo dedicated his Olympic gold to his late mother, Seratiwa who passed away in May earlier this year. As the camera panned onto Tebogo, he sent the Chelsea fans into a frenzy with the Palmer pose. A move that had garnered media fanfare after Chelsea’s wunderkind pulled that off time and time again as a part of his signature celebrations.

The move is known as the ‘cold’ or ‘shiver’ pose which Palmer uses to celebrate his goals that constituted the nickname ‘Cold Palmer’. Seeing Tebogo pull off the iconic celebration of Palmer, even Chelsea’s official handle posted a snap of the former captioning it ‘Cold recognizes cold’.

In what was a star-studded race, Letsile Tebogo flew off the start line and started holding onto his own against Bednarek and Lyles. USA’s Erriyon Knighton was another major threat to the Botswana athlete but Tebogo maintained his pace and kept his flight at full steam despite an oscillating race in Paris.

Knighton finished fourth with a time of 19.99 seconds while Dominican Republic’s Alexander Ogando finished fifth. It was also a humdinger race for Zimbabwe. For the first time in the history of the 200m final in the Olympics, they had two athletes coming in, namely Tapiwanashe Makarawu and Makanakaishe Charamba who finished sixth and eighth respectively.
