Liam Coen has helped turn the Jacksonville Jaguars around from a perennial underachiever to one that ended up surprising quite a few football fans and analysts on their way to the postseason.
In fact, ‘Duuuval’ motivating almost the same team to an identically opposite record was not on everyone’s bingo card. That is what led many to wonder if they were going to be too good for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
Some were siding with the underdog Jaguars, as others were busy talking about how a loss to them would permanently ‘damage’ the reigning league MVP’s legacy.
After an abysmal first quarter, the away team scored the game’s first touchdown and from then on, held the lead over the Jaguars. Liam Coen’s men did not let that deficit get to them, and they staged a 4th quarter comeback that turned the game over its head.
However, after Josh Allen managed to get the lead back for his team, the Bills intercepted Trevor Lawrence to hand them a disappointing loss. After the game, as the first-year head coach stood in front of reporters, one of them, Lynn Jones, said this:
I just want to tell you, congratulations on your success, young man. You hold your head up, all right. You guys have had a most magnificent season. You did a great job out there today… Ladies and gentlemen, Duval, you the one. You keep it going, we’ve got another season.

Liam Coen continually thanked the Jacksonville Free Press News Associate Editor for her kind words, as it happened to be the only moment where a little smile broke out on his face.
LeSean McCoy and fans did not appreciate reporter ‘coddling’ Liam Coen
When clips of this post-game interview went live on social media, they quickly racked up millions of views. Many fans appreciated Lynn Jones for her kind words to uplift a disappointed Liam Coen.
However, there were others, most notably former Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy, who felt the journalist was not professional.
Moreover, the former two-time Super Bowl champion felt that she did not need to ‘coddle’ the Jaguars’ head coach, as this is the NFL, and only those with a fighting spirit can succeed. Check out examples of reactions that echo McCoy’s opinion below:
Somebody come get they mama … lol this ain’t little league where we all get appreciation trophies 😂😂 https://t.co/BaeFCDQSzs

This is so wildly inappropriate and unprofessional.

This reporter should have her credentials revoked immediately.
Reporter should be fired. Go get a Jags PR job. Reporters aren't cheerleaders or fans.
— Sean McCormick (@semcincy) January 12, 2026
look, it’s a kind sentiment, but it’s not the job of a reporter to console a coach in a postgame press conference.

Pressers are to ask questions to gain a better understanding of what happened or figure out what’s next — and do it in a limited amount of time. https://t.co/JDQK9nsMyX
Yeah I don’t know about the “reporter” part…

No it’s not…reporters aren’t supposed to be cheerleaders Adam

Not sure how that credential was given out.
— Chick Hernandez (@MrChickSports) January 11, 2026
This is not awesome. This is called being a cheerleader. Reporters should be in PR if they want to carry on like this.

Maybe after a few days, it might dawn on Liam Coen and the Jacksonville Jaguars that they may have had a terrific season. But what fans want them to know is that they need to use this loss as the spark to help them push for more.
Liam Coen already had his eyes on the future
LeSean McCoy may not agree with how Lynn Jones tried to uplift Liam Coen, but the head coach was already in the mindset of looking forward to next season.

Focus on the process. Phase one, phase two, phase three, OTAs, training camp, and just live in those moments, which is, I think, what allows you to now enjoy these kinda moments, where you win 13 games… To win the division in year one, for sure, very special. But a lot of work to do still.
Liam Coen told reporters
Liam Coen was asked about what it meant to win the AFC South in his first season as a head coach.

The 40-year-old said this a week ago after ending their season with 13 wins. Those words indicate that he knows this is not the end, and that their turnaround this season is just the first step.
Coen might be looking forward to when Phase three kicks in. Maybe once he tinkers with the squad and works out how to maximize Travis Hunter‘s skills, when he returns from injury, the team could become a real threat.
