Liam Coen’s wife gets torched trying to clear his name by NFL Twitter – “Unethical, lying, and deceiving character”
Liam Coen's wife Ashley Coen faced harsh criticism due to his actions of ghosting the Buccaneers and becoming the head coach of the Jaguars.

Liam Coen went from being a respected coach to one of the most disliked individuals in Tampa Bay in a span of just two days. The 39-year-old reportedly ghosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to take the vacant Jacksonville Jaguars coaching job.
Coen always harbored aspirations of becoming a head coach someday. In one of his press conferences, reporters asked about the constant inquiries from several teams about his availability, and Coen replied that he was ready for the next step.
I don’t think you’re ever truly fully ready, but yeah, that is a dream. Does that need to happen when I’m 39 years old and having probably the most fun of my life coaching, working, and being here? That doesn’t mean that needs to occur right now but yeah, that is the goal.

On Wednesday, Coen was scheduled to travel to Jacksonville to meet with the brass, but decided to stay in Tampa. His decision brought smiles to the faces of the Buccaneers fans, who waited patiently for a quick escalation.
Their joy was short-lived. The Buccaneers tried to contact their offensive guru but couldn’t reach him over the phone. It took him nearly 26 hours to make up his mind about leaving his post in Tampa and accepting the head coaching job of the Jaguars.
A press release revealed that Coen couldn’t return the phone calls because he was busy taking care of his son, who was in the hospital. The reason mattered little, as his actions angered a section of the Buccaneers fans who felt betrayed. His wife, Ashley Coen, had to release a statement to clear her husband’s name.
I hate that I even have to say this, but when people are negative about my kids, I will not be silent. Our son is sick; we were at the hospital yesterday seeing a specialist for his autoimmune disease. Please don’t spread misinformation and assume because you heard one side.

Fans throw harsh comments at Liam Coen and his wife despite her attempts to make amends
It’s not easy to please football fans, let alone try to change their perspective about something. Ashley tried protecting her family by explaining their situation, but it did not work.

Instead, NFL fans on social media viewed the attempt as patchwork.
Yeah guys, please don’t attack his family and kids! Just focus on his unethical, lying, and deceiving character instead.

My husband lied and my livelihood depends on backing up his lies would have been a more accurate post babe https://t.co/c59umFeVGU

Trash like her Husband…. The lack of character and integrity makes me sick. Would never fabricate shit about my kids… I'd be a man and be honest. Clearly not what the Coen family chose. 🗑🗑🗑 https://t.co/w5Cxg9ECpJ

Using your kid’s illness as cover for husbands shitty behavior is pretty disgusting actually. Pretty poor character all the way around https://t.co/lznpp90BIh

I’m getting tired of football wives claiming people are attacking/booing them and their kids when people call out things their husbands do. Be better. https://t.co/RWBvXHV5Ci

Idk that this changes the circumstance much. Truly sorry your son is ill, but the poor optics of the situation remain the same.

Your husband was unable to contact anyone at Bucs HQ due to being at the Hospital. Understandable.
But how was he then able to get to Jacksonville…
Your husband is the most unethical coach in football – that is what we are talking about. Kentucky fans will know this better than anyone.

with all due respect , I think I can speak for a lot of Bucs fans when I say this….what he did to the people here who gave him the opportunity in the first place is a world class douchebag move….Enjoy the money in Jacksonville and tell your husband to change his profile photo

Your husband was sneakily interviewing with the Jaguars – and used your son as a proxy as to why he was ghosting the Bucs. No one is being negative about your son – it’s your husband who is in the wrong here!

Go Bucs! https://t.co/dzPGg766nZ
Later, Liam Coen addressed the situation. He sounded delighted to be in Jacksonville but thanked the Buccaneers for giving him a chance to coach the likes of Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans.
Becoming the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars is an opportunity of a lifetime, and one that I am going to run with to instill a championship culture and winning tradition here in Duval. This doesn’t happen without the support and opportunities that my family and I have been afforded throughout my career, especially during this past season in Tampa Bay. We thank Todd Bowles for his continued support and the entire Buccaneers organization for the experience and know they will have success ahead.

Coen was the offensive playcaller at Tampa for just one year. His tactics helped Mayfield throw a career-best 407 completions for 4500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions (most in the league).
Coen now has the job to revive the career of Trevor Lawrence, which has been laden with injuries and bad play. He would love working with Brian Thomas Jr., who in his rookie season caught 87 passes for 1282 yards and 10 touchdowns.
