Ligue 1: Brest vs PSG Player Ratings as PSG secure easy win against Brest
Brest vs PSG
PSG came into the game with 2 wins in 2 games and were clear favourites against Brest, who had a 1-1 scoreline in both their previous games this season. As many would have expected, PSG routed the home side 4-2, making it 3 out of 3 this season, while Brest still waits for their first win this year.
Paris dominated the game right from the start, with possession of more than 75% for almost the entire duration of the game. They scored twice in the first half but also conceded one just a couple of minutes ahead of the half time. Herrera gave PSG their opening goal and Mbappe added on to the lead. Brest were back in contention with a goal from Honorat, but Gueye’s goal in the 74th minute made it difficult for Brest. Striker Steve Mounie put in a late goal at the 85th minute to make it 2-3, but then the experienced Di Maria’s goal in the 90th minute made sure the game was done and dusted.
Let us quickly dive into how the players of both teams performed.
Brest
Marco Bizot (GK) (3/10): Bizot had a forgettable game where he conceded as many as 4 goals. He was caught off-guard a number of times and needs to improve a lot going forward.
Ronael Pierre-Gabriel (5/10): Pierre-Gabriel had a tough time stopping the PSG attack. He had a quiet game and did not have much of an impact for the home side.
Brendan Chardonnet (5/10): Chardonnet did have much say in the game except for the one good block. He found it tough to handle the PSG forward’s speed.
Jere Uronen (5/10): Much like his fellow defenders, Uronen had a quiet game as he failed to restrict the PSG attack and also failed to create chances down the flanks.
Lillian Brassier (6/10): Brassier had a decent outing and made 2 good blocks. Apart from that, he could not have much against the PSG forward.
Haris Belkebla (5/10): The Algerian international made 2 good interceptions but did not have anything else to take from the game. He did not have much say in the midfield and could not tackle the PSG attack.
Hiang’a Managa Mbock (4/10): Mbock had a disappointing game where he let go of the possession multiple times, which provided the opposition with the chance to attack. Apart from the 1 interception, Mbock had a quiet game.
Irvin Cardona (5/10): The Brest midfielder had a quiet game without much impact, apart from the 2 interceptions. He was substituted in the 74th minute.
Romain Faivre (8.5/10): Faivre had a great game and he assisted both the goals scored by his side. He was up against a terrific defence but Faivre made sure he created a couple of great chances in the limited opportunities he got.
Franck Honorat (9.5/10): Honorat was the thorn in the flesh for PSG the whole game till he was substituted in the 88th minute. He gave Brest their first goal in the 42nd minute and made sure they stay in contention. He created a couple of chances which unfortunately were not converted. Overall he was the brightest spot in an otherwise dismal performance from Brest.
Steve Mounie (8.5/10): The Benin international had a great outing against PSG. He scored a late goal in the 85th minute to bring his side back in contention. Along with that Mounie had 2 successful aerial duels and 2 successful takeons. A little more possession and some more chances by the midfielders would have surely made a near-perfect game for the Brest striker.
Substitutes:
Hugo Magnetti (6/10): The French youngster came in as a substitute for Belkebla and had an average outing in the midfield. Though he managed better possession than Belkebla, it was too late for him to make an impact, and also the PSG attack did not let him to.
Paris Saint-Germain
Keylor Navas (GK) (4/10): Navas conceded 2 goals and had just 1 save. The Costa Rican goalkeeper had an average game with some scope for improvement.
Achraf Hakimi (8/10): The Morocco international had a good outing, creating chances for the strikers down the flanks. He combined well down the wings to stress out the Brest defence. Hakimi assisted the goal for PSG in the 90th minute, making it out of reach for Brest.
Thilo Kehrer (7/10): Kehrer did well to keep the Brest forward at bay in the first half. The performance faded a bit at the beginning of the second half but he ended well. Kehrer made 2 successful blocks and 2 successful aerial duels in the game.
Presnel Kimpembe (7/10): Kimbempe had a decent game and played a major role in PSG keeping the majority of possession. He made 2 successful aerial duels and had the most passes (114) in the game.
Abdou Diallo (6/10): Diallo, who was one of the best performers for PSG against Strasbourg, had an average game where he did not have much of an impact.
Marco Verratti (8/10): Marco Verratti, who was playing his first game of the season, made sure Brest did not make the most of their possession whenever they got the ball in the midfield. He had 3 successful tackles and 5 successful takeons in the game. Overall had a good game.
Ander Herrera (9.5/10): Herrera had a near-perfect game with a goal and an assist, along with 3 chances created and the highest passing accuracy (96%) in the game. His opening goal put PSG in the driver’s seat and his assist for the third goal made it too tough for the home side.
Georginio Wijnaldum (6/10): The Dutch midfielder and former Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldium did have an average game, and is yet to create a significant impact for PSG.
Idrissa Gueye (9.5/10): Playing his first game of the season, the Senegal midfielder scored in the 74th minute to put his side in a 3-1 lead. Gueye also had a passing accuracy of more than 86%, along with his 2 successful tackles and takeons. His inclusion created a huge impact for PSG in the midfield.
Mauro Icardi (4/10): Mauro Icardi had a rather quiet game after two terrific outings. He could not create any impact in the game and had a disappointing outing.
Kylian Mbappé (9/10): The French striker had a great outing, with one goal and a couple of shots on target. He also made 3 very good crosses and had a passing accuracy of 88% in the final third.
Substitutes:
Angel Di Maria (9/10): The Argentine striker made an impact almost immediately with a goal and a couple of shots on target. He came in to replace Mbappe in the 81st minute and scored a goal in the 90th minute to put the final nail in the coffin for Brest.
