Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-Ting, another controversial boxer pertaining to gender row, won the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, not only did her winning the gold medal go viral, but also the way she made her Polish opponent bleed is at the top of the buzz.
Amidst all the controversies surrounding her, Lin remained unfazed heading into her final bout. The Chinese Taipei boxer defeated Poland’s Julia Szeremeta by a unanimous decision. Soon after, highlights of her buzzing all over the internet since her bout. During the bout, Lin displayed an exquisite skillset of boxing. The featherweight gold medalist made some great combos with her left jab and right hook. Ultimately, in the third round, a perfect right hook from Lin was enough to crack Szeremeta open. Interestingly, along with Algeria’s Imane Khelif, Lin has also faced accusations about her eligibility to box in the Paris Olympics. According to reports, Lin was declared ineligible according to IBA rules. However, as for the Olympic Games, the IOC does not comply with the rules of the IBA. Hence, per the IOC rule book, both boxers were eligible to contest. Interestingly, that storm of controversy has not stopped either Khelif or now Lin from winning Olympic gold.
Lin had her share of controversies in the tournament. Along her path to glory, several accusations came up even from her opponents. However, she eventually shrugged off all the noise and showed her potential inside the ring.
