In Short
  • Linda Noskova has reached the women's semifinal at Indian Wells, set to face Aryna Sabalenka.
  • She cites Serena Williams as her primary inspiration, alongside Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.
  • Noskova's recent performances include a tough three-set victory over Talia Gibson in the quarterfinals.

There’s a moment in every young athlete’s career when the world stops and pays attention. For Linda Noskova, that moment is now.

The 21-year-old Czech sensation has turned Indian Wells upside down, punching her ticket to the women’s semifinal and setting up what could be one of the most talked-about matches of the 2026 WTA season.

Standing across the net on March 14 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden will be Aryna Sabalenka. Before the match, Noskova was asked about her inspiration.

Her answer was short, sharp, and completely on brand for someone playing with this kind of fearlessness. Noskova said on Tennis Channel:

My inspiration has been Serena Williams, of course. For me, she’s the best tennis player of all time, but I’ve also been heavily influenced by Petra Kvitova in the Czech Republic. She was always at the top throughout her career, so she’s been on my list of favorites since I started playing tennis. My family are big tennis fans, so it’s always been a part of my life.

It’s a telling choice. Williams wasn’t just a great tennis player, but she was a force of nature who refused to be outworked, outfought, or outmaneuvered. That same energy is starting to come through in Noskova’s game. She also shouted out Petra Kvitová as her Czech inspiration, speaking warmly about her family’s deep love for the sport.

The road to the semis for Linda Noskova

Getting here wasn’t a cakewalk. Linda Noskova had to grind through a tough three-set quarterfinal battle against qualifier Talia Gibson before finally pulling through and advancing. Three sets. On one of the biggest stages in the sport. Against a player who had nothing to lose. She handled it.

Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka was doing what she does, bulldozing her way through the draw with that thunderous baseline game of hers, edging past Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko to keep her semifinal run alive. Now the two of them are on a collision course, and the tennis world can barely contain itself.

Sabalenka has had news on and off the court at Indian Wells. Although there is a lot discussed about her performances on the court, there was great news off it as she announced her engagement. Her engagement ring has also stolen a lot of the spotlight in this tournament.

Aryna Sabalenka is the favorite in the Indian Wells semifinal

Back at the 2024 Australian Open, Linda Noskova walked onto Rod Laver Arena and knocked off Iga Swiatek. That wasn’t luck. That was a statement. She backed it up with a semifinal run at the 2025 China Open and reached finals in both Tokyo and Beijing during the Asian swing that same year.

Now she’s ranked No. 14 in the world and climbing. Despite that, Sabalenka is a monster. Her first serve is one of the most devastating weapons in the women’s game, and she hits the ball harder off the ground than almost anyone on tour. Analysts widely expect her power to be the decisive factor in this matchup.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Noskova has repeatedly shown that she doesn’t crumble under pressure. Her serve is big, her movement is sharp, and she plays with a kind of composed aggression that tends to rattle opponents who expect a young player to tighten up on the big points.
