Former World No.1 Lindsay Davenport has claimed that she is convinced Novak Djokovic would have chosen winning the Olympic Singles Gold medal over the Calendar Year Grand Slam in 2024. The Serb won his first Olympic Gold medal at the Paris Olympics, defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the Singles Gold Medal match.

The Olympic Gold medal remains Djokovic’s only piece of silverware in 2024. However, considering the significance of the achievement, the Serb would still embrace that fact.

Big, but that’s normal. I was delighted when he won the gold medal in Paris. If you had asked him if he wanted Olympic gold or all four Grand Slam tournaments, I am convinced he would have said gold. It is without a doubt the best moment in the world of tennis this year. He wanted it more than anyone else, more than anything in the world. And he did all this after surgery and losing the final at Wimbledon. It just shows his greatness.
Lindsay Davenport said in an interview with Sports Klub

Djokovic had a meniscus tear during Roland Garros, which forced him to withdraw from his quarterfinal match. With his participation at Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics looking doubtful, he accelerated his recovery to be fit for SW19.

Djokovic lost in the Wimbledon final to Alcaraz but turned the tables on the Spaniard at the Olympic Games. Despite this achievement, the 37-year-old has gone the entire year without a Grand Slam title.

Novak Djokovic set to headline exhibition in Mexico

Novak Djokovic is on the verge of joining other famous tennis players for an exhibition match in Mexico. Reports suggest he is close to finalizing a deal to play there after the 2024 season ends. Stars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Carlos Alcaraz have previously participated in similar events in Mexico.

Djokovic is expected to play at the Monumental Plaza de Toros, Mexico. While his opponent hasn’t been confirmed, there is talk of him facing Juan Martin del Potro in Argentina as part of a Latin American tour. The duo was seen practicing together at Arthur Ashe before the start of the US Open.

Typically, Djokovic takes a long break after the season, but this year might be different. He recently achieved a major career goal by winning an Olympic singles gold medal and completing the Career Golden Slam.

The Monumental Plaza de Toros, Mexico, is no stranger to big matches; it set a world record in 2019 when Federer and Alexander Zverev attracted 42,517 fans. This record was later broken by Federer and Nadal in South Africa. The venue continued to host big names, with Nadal and Casper Ruud playing in 2022 and Alcaraz and Tommy Paul in 2023.
