After three amazing quarters of the tennis season, the tour heads on to the final part of the season. With that comes the most prestigious Grand Slam for the Americans, the US Open. The predictions for the winner have already started flowing in and former tennis players are one of the first to make them.

In the recent episode of the Tennis Channel Live, Lindsay Davenport, along with two other guests, discussed the possible American that could win their home Slam. She believed that Coco Gauff had the best chance to defend her Slam, like how Aryna Sabalenka did at the Australian Open.

Sabalenka also was in a similar situation when she won the Australian Open in 2023. This year, she was in a great mindset to win the first Slam again, and did it after beating the best on tour. Last year, Gauff became the youngest player after Serena Williams to win the US Open. She beat some of the best women on tour, including Sabalenka, to win the title. According to the former tennis player, the American is the front-runner to defend her title.

I agree (with former ATP star Sam Querrey, who was also present in the Tennis Channel studio), it's Coco Gauff who has the best chance. We saw Sabalenka defend her Australian Open title at the start of the year. Can Coco go two in a row at the US Open? But she's got to do it with an even mindset, get that back.

However, Devenport also stated that Gauff needs to defend her title with the same mindset she had last year. This year, the American did not have the same mindset she had last year. She has not been at her best all year and will need to get it back to successfully defend her title.

Coco Gauff gears up for the Canadian Open to check out her preparations for the 2024 US Open

Coco Gauff is up and running to lead the draw at the Canadian Open to figure out the preparations she needs to do for the upcoming US Open. After losing out early at the Paris Olympics, the American has expectations riding on her to bounce back, especially with her upcoming home slam.

However, Gauff does not have expectations to win this tournament. She knows for a fact that there are some adjustments to make in terms of different surfaces. Nevertheless, she will play in the tournament and be up against some fierce competition.

I have no expectations for this week. I’m not going into this expecting to win. It will obviously be great. That's the goal. But, to be realistic, I was on clay three days ago. So, yeah, I think overall I'm just using this just to see where I'm at what I need to do to get ready for US Open.

Gauff has not gotten a kind draw this year. She will be up against Diana Shnaider, Liudmila Samsonova, and Jessica Pegula in her way. She got off to a great start with a win over Wang Yafan in the second round and will take on Schnaider next.
