Linus Ullmark and Ilya Samsonov‘s drama has been one of the most anticipated faceoffs in the NHL’s 2024-25 season as their history goes deep. Their beef after the postseason games caught wild social media attention and fans have waited for the November 21 game since then.

The story unfolded back in the playoffs season when then-Boston Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark took a shot at then-Toronto Maple Leafs netminder Ilya Samsonov’s skill on ice. Ullmark stated how he didn’t feel motivated enough to face off against Samsonov due to his low skill.

This made Samsonov fire back, stating how he couldn’t wait for the 2024-25 regular season games to begin. However in between, both the goalies got traded to different teams. Samsonov is currently with the Vegas Golden Knights, while Ullmark plays for the Ottawa Senators.

However, that didn’t stop the bad blood between them. The long-awaited faceoff took place recently, with the Knights closing the game with a 3-2 win.

Can’t think about the past but be pissed off about tonight.

On Wednesday night, the starting goalie for the Knights lineup was Adin Hill. When asked if Samsonov felt bad about not playing against his former team Toronto, he replied in a hilarious manner.

No, no no. Tomorrow. Against Ullmark. My guy.

It seems like the revenge was successful, but it’s hard to say whether that’ll be the end of it. The two teams will further face each other in the future and maybe the rivalry between the two boil up. Goalie fights are rare sights in NHL so fans are rather happy to be part of one.

Linus Ullmark struggles to keep pace in ongoing 2024-25 season

Seems like Ottawa Senators goalie Linus Ullmark is not yet ready in form yet. While he made a couple of good saves in the team’s faceoff against VGK, he ultimately failed to keep his team alive.

He stopped Ivan Barbashev’s shot with a chest dive although Jack Eichel scored right after. Apart from this, Ullmark also blocked Thomas Hertl and Nicolas Roy in the first and second periods of the game.

However, failing to stop Brett Howden’s puck proved to be the vital lifeline for the Knights’ 3-2 win. Sens coach Travis Green commented how he felt “a little bit of, ‘oh boy’” moment after Ullmark allowed the goal.

He also could not stop the winning shot by Pavel Dorofeyev, which resulted in the team’s loss. The team is hoping Ullmark gets back to his form and becomes one of the pillars for them. However, when that happens is a question with regular season games raging in full mode.
