In a recent interview with ESPN Argentina, 36-year old Inter Miami star Lionel Messi finally opened up about his retirement plans, asserting that he has achieved everything in his career. The 2022 FIFA World Cup champion admitted that he has nothing left to prove.
Messi’s interview with ESPN has been doing the rounds for the last few days, after the Argentinean superstar hinted at retirement, exclaiming that there is not much of time remaining at the final years of his career. Moreover, he also settled the rumors by announcing David Beckham’s Inter Miami as the last club he would be playing for, an end to an illustrious two-decade long football career.

Messi expressed that he has accomplished everything imaginable in football, having won every club trophy with Barcelona, every individual accolade, alongside the Copa America, and the World Cup with the Argentinean national team. He is Barcelona’s leading scorer with 672 goals.
In a distinguished career, he has secured over 40 trophies for both club and country. Additionally, he holds the record for the most Ballon d’Or awards, with eight, and feels content with his accomplishment.

The former PSG star expressed his lifelong love for playing football and the enjoyment he found in the daily routine, including practices and games. However, he is now focused on enjoying his remaining time with the club and his teammates.
Lionel Messi backs Argentina as ‘favorites’ to win the 2024 Copa America
Argentine skipper Lionel Messi backed his team as favorites to retain the Copa America this summer in an interview with ESPN Argentina. While injuries saw the 36-year old miss some of Argentina’s pre-tournament matches, he will be an integral part of the squad in the USA.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner stated that his home side is always a strong contender in both the Copa America and World Cups. He noted that their recent successes in winning the Copa America, Finalissima, and World Cup, along with the quality of their players, enhance their status as favorites. Impressed by his teammates’ dedication, Messi acknowledged that the balance in the squad would propel Argentina’s chances to be among the top teams.
