Argentina’s rich football history is centred around two of the biggest names in football – Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi. While it remains near impossible to compare the two to this day, Diego Valeri has come up with a near brilliant way to define the two.
The MLS legend and former Argentina international insists that the two shouldn’t be compared, but used the words ‘dancer’ and ‘machine’ to define the two legends.
They're two different players. It's more of who you like more than who's the best. Diego Maradona was a dancer with the ball while Messi is a machine. The generational difference also makes it hard to compare.Diego Valeri via Offside podcast with Taylor Twellman
Even though Valeri claimed that Messi has reached a level no one else has, he puts both No.10’s in the same bracket to this date.
Both Maradona and Messi have a World Cup to their name and while determining the better of the two remains an extremely subjective task, both have their own arguments as to being the best.
Lionel Messi‘s recent World Cup triumph in Qatar has cast away any remaining shadow of doubt as to him being the best to ever kick a ball. Maradona on the other hand, is still revered as the best player to don the Argentine kit.
Lionel Messi ‘graceful in defeat’ after crashing out of Champions Cup
Lionel Messi and co. were on the wrong side of things as the Herons failed to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the first leg. Inter Miami were knocked out by Monterrey 5-2 on aggregate on Thursday as the hosts ran riot of the David Beckham-owned club. In spite of an embarrassing outing with his team, Lionel Messi made millions smile with a heartwarming gesture.
Following the game, Messi consented to taking pictures with the kids of Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada. The Argentine goalkeeper immediately took to social media, posting pictures of Messi in the tunnel with his children.
He thanked Messi in the caption for giving his children a moment they’ll never forget. He also hailed Messi as the greatest of all time.
Fans immediately took to social media to praise Messi’s gesture. A fan said that simple gestures like these set Messi apart from the rest and that he was much more than ‘just’ a footballer.
Following the loss, Miami prepare to take on Kansas City and then Nashville in the MLS. After a rather disappointing outing against Monterrey, Messi will be looking to make a noticeable difference in his next games.
