From a significant boost in popularity to extensive reach and features in advertisements, Messi has re-invented his image among the masses. His most recent viral video took netizens by surprise, as he featured in a collaboration with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for their upcoming movie.
The iconic ‘Bad Boys’ franchise is set to release its latest addition to the series with ‘Bad Boys : Ride or Die’. As part of the publicity campaign for the movie, the duo partnered with World Cup winner and Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi. In a video featuring Smith and Lawrence, the Argentine makes a surprising entry.
The video features Messi knocking at the door of the ‘Bad Boys’, to which Smith opens the door. Messi is seen speaking English for the first time ever, as he surprisingly exclaims ‘Bad Boys!’. However, Lawrence replies with ‘Wrong Casa’ and awkwardly closes the door in the Argentine’s face.
The clip has gone viral on social media, alongside another clip of the Miami No.10 kicking ball with the Hollywood duo.

Lionel Messi speaking English for the first time ever on video has called for mixed reactions on social media. After the general amusement and surprise died down, fans pointed out how the 36-year-old struggled to even make out a few words in the language. Others pointed to how awkward and ‘cringe’ the player was as he featured in the clip.
However, fans of the player claimed that moving to the MLS over Saudi benefitted Messi greatly in terms of popularity and PR. From Apple TV to movie promotions and Super Bowl advertisements, fans were happy that Messi was ‘finally’ getting time in the spotlight. A supporter claimed that American PR simply hits different.
Some said that they had to watch the trailer again to confirm that he had actually uttered a few words in English. Many said that Messi was finally enjoying life after completing everything there is to compete in football.
Some laughed at how this cameo was enough to make him the greatest actor of all time as well. Messi will play two more MLS games before joining the Argentine camp for the upcoming Copa America.
