Lionel Messi is one of the biggest names in the history of the sport. The 8-time Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup champion is in the final stretch of his playing days, and at the age of 36, has to think long and hard as to when he will call time on an inimitable career.
The forward currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS and captains the Argentine national team. In a recent interview, the forward revealed plans of his potential retirement and the possibility of playing for another club in the future.

The 36-year-old played for FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain before making the move to the MLS. Messi spent the majority of his playing days in Spain, spending 17 years of his professional career with the Blaugrana.
As of now, the Argentine is under contract until the end of the 2025 MLS season with the Herons. He has scored 12 goals and set up another 9 from 12 appearances this season.
Miami return to action on the 16th of June, even though his return will depend on how far the Albiceleste will progress in the Copa America.

With two more years left to go for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reports suggest that the player is undergoing special treatment to be physically fit for the same. They player is reportedly undergoing muscle rejuvenation therapy.
If true, this suggests that the player still has his eye on the next tournament. It wasn’t long ago that the forward claimed in an interview that he hadn’t thought about retirement.
By the time the next World Cup comes around, Messi will be 38 years old. It will be his sixth edition of the same and will most likely be his last. The 36-year-old admitted in an interview that he cannot play every single game and has to prioritize when and when not to exert himself. This is the same reason why he will not be joining the national team at the upcoming Olympics.
