Lionel Messi has pitched up in the ‘greatest of all time’ conversations yet again as the Argentine pulled the latest trick up his sleeve. Scoring 5 goals in a single game is one of the most difficult feats in the game. But making 5 assists is unheard of! The Inter Miami No.10 lived up to his billing of being from another planet as he became the first-ever player to grab 5 assists in a single game.
Miami cruised to a 6-2 win over the New York Red Bulls thanks to a Matias Rojas brace and a Luis Suarez assist. While Lionel Messi also grabbed a goal in the 50th minute, fans were dumbfounded to learn that Messi set up all five of his team’s goals, that too, in a span of just 33 minutes! 5 assists in little over half an hour became Messi’s latest ‘unreal’ record as the No.10 also nears the title of Miami’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Even though each one of Messi’s assists deserves all the praise, his second assist to Rojas was the cherry on top. A threaded pass through the Red Bulls backline and a sublime chip over the opposition keeper by Rojas was indeed Messi’s best assist of the game.
His first assist to Suarez raised eyebrows too, when the Uruguayan hit his teammate’s pass first time on the volley.
Fans react to Lionel Messi’s ‘unbelievable’ 6 G/A performance
Lionel Messi’s football is as inhumane as it gets! The Miami No.10, despite missing four games this season while also coming under criticism for his displays, sits on top of both the goal scoring and assist tally! With 10 goals and 9 assists, Messi proved why it isn’t time to write him off just yet. 19 goal contributions in 8 matches made even rival fans bow down to the genius of the superstar.
A fan commented that records were made solely for Lionel Messi to come and break them while another added that his 19 G/A stat was unbelievable even for the MLS. Despite being 36 years old, fans were surprised that Messi was indeed the king of the sport. The No.10’s sudden spurt in form prior to the Copa America gave Argentina fans the confidence they needed ahead of the tournament.
Fans could only stand back in admiration as a legend proved just why he deserves all the praise. A fan said that Miami were winning it all this year and that the rest of the MLS should give up. As it stands, Miami are currently top of the League table (Eastern Conference) with 24 points in 12 games.
