Argentinean star Lionel Messi broke his silence on the national team’s controversial 2-1 loss to Morocco, in the opening match at the Paris Olympics. The 37-year-old shared a cryptic one-word message on social media, expressing his anguish.
Argentina’s opening game at the Olympics ended in a chaotic 2-1 defeat. The Albiceleste equalized at 2-2 in the 16th minute of stoppage time with a goal from Cristian Medina. However, this led to fans storming the pitch, prompting officials to suspend the match for over an hour. Eventually, the teams returned to play for three more minutes in an empty stadium, where Medina’s goal was disallowed by VAR, and Morocco held on to win.
After the match, Lionel Messi surprisingly took to social media to express his displeasure. The Argentine legend posted the word ‘insolito,’ meaning unbelievable, along with an emoji to convey his disbelief. Moreover, the Argentine team has faced hostility from fans at the Olympics, with their national anthem being booed. This anger erupted following recent footage showing Enzo Fernandez and his teammates participating in a racist chant after their Copa America victory.
