Despite playing outside of Europe and being 37 years of age, Lionel Messi is still very much at the top of his game. The Argentine made headlines on Saturday (October 19) by scoring an unbelievable hat-trick for Inter Miami — his second in five days.

New England Revolution were at the receiving end of his greatness as the No. 10 helped his side claim a 6-2 win on the night. Messi was hailed by many on social media as the best ever and wanted him back in Europe.

Lionel Messi was already in red-hot form going into the game, with a brilliant hat-trick and two assists against Bolivia during the International break. He surprisingly did not start the game against Revolution and was only subbed on in the 57th minute for Julian Gressel.

It took Messi just nine seconds to get involved in the game, when his stunning pass led to Miami’s third goal of the game, courtesy of Benjamin Cremaschi. Messi then took matters into his own hands in the 78th minute when he fired in a brilliant shot from outside the box. He then secured his brace by comfortably tucking the ball past opposition keeper Aljaz Ivacic.

The veteran then went on to bag his first-ever hat-trick for Inter Miami after he converted a spectacular volley sent in by Luis Suarez from the wing. The hat-trick also meant that Messi became the all-time top scorer for the MLS club.

Fans react to Lionel Messi’s stunning hat-trick

Just days after his brilliant display against Bolivia, Lionel Messi bagged a stunning hat-trick to help Inter Miami reach 74 points in the MLS, which also happens to be the all-time record for most points in a single season. A fan commented that Messi should just come back to Europe and that he still has a lot to offer. Some even said that he’s the best in the world at the moment.

One fan excitedly claimed that Messi can still win the Ballon d’Or. A few focused on how he scored two hat-tricks in five days, that too with zero penalties. Some, as expected, mocked Messi’s rival Cristiano Ronaldo and asked him to do the same in the Saudi Pro League.

Here are some of the fan reactions:

Messi’s 2024 has been nothing short of world-class. The Argentine has scored 20 goals and registered 10 assists in 19 MLS games this season. The team also lifted the Supporters’ Shield in front of their own fans, with Messi allowing Drake Callender to lift the award despite being the captain. He also hit a new bow and arrow celebration in the 6-2 win, which subsequently went viral on social media.
