Lionel Messi is arguably one of the best footballers in the history of the sport. Despite being 37, the Argentine is still a level above the rest in nearly every aspect of the game. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold on the other hand, is one of, if not the best right backs in the modern game. In a recent interview, the Englishman named Messi as the best player he’s ever faced.

It is interesting to note that Alexander-Arnold has come up against Cristiano Ronaldo on multiple occasions during the latter’s second stint with Manchester United. Surprisingly, the Portuguese failed to score on both occasions, with him losing his cool on one occasion as he kicked the ball off of Curtis Jones who had fallen over.

Speaking of the duo’s victories and achievements throughout their respective careers, Robben questioned whether Messi had to use ‘tricks’ to become the best.

Truly, the absolute absolute best ever. I always ask does he use tricks? The answer is no. Messi of course, he doesn’t have tricks, he just does everything quickly.

Arjen Robben told TOUZANI on YouTube

The former winger named Messi’s agility, speed and control as his best assets and the things that separate him from the rest. Lionel Messi currently plies his trade at Inter Miami in the MLS while Ronaldo plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. Messi recently won the Supporters’ Shield with Miami after beating Columbus Crew in the title decider.
