Glenn Maxwell, Moeen Ali pull out of 2026 IPL auction
Glenn Maxwell and Moeen Ali have officially confirmed their decision to pull out of the upcoming 2026 IPL mini-auction, hitting at retirement from the league. Maxwell and Ali are the third and fourth players, part of a high-profile group of veteran stars, to have pulled out of participating in IPL 2026.

Having made a name for himself in the IPL, Glenn Maxwell has played for DC, PBKS, MI and RCB since his debut in 2012. The 37-year-old all-rounder boasts an impressive tally of 2,819 runs in 141 IPL matches, at an average of 23.89, while having also taken 41 wickets. Maxwell announced his decision to pull out of the auction on social media with a heavy heart, sharing how the IPL shaped him as a player.
Apart from the Australian, former England all-rounder Moeen Ali also confirmed that he is opting out of the upcoming 2026 IPL auction, adding that he is prepared to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) next summer. Ali has played 73 matches in the competition, and was a notable contributor in CSK’s 2021 and 2023 IPL triumphs, but now follows former Chennai teammate Faf du Plessis to PSL.
Until now, four IPL icons have pulled out of the competition ahead of the 2026 auction. West Indies icon Andre Russell had also retired from the IPL, earlier this week, but is set to continue his association after being appointed KKR’s new ‘power’ coach.
