Liverpool came out on top in their fight for the top spot as Arne Slot‘s men hosted Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday night. The Reds did not disappoint, as goals from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones handed them a 2-1 win. Chelsea put up a tough fight for the hosts as a goal from Nicolas Jackson proved insufficient to win.
The game breathed excitement from the very start as either side went all in. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson failed to convert their chances before Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute. Levi Colwill tripped Curtis Jones inside the penalty area, and the referee promptly pointed to the spot. Mohamed Salah then comfortably opened the scoring as he sent Robert Sanchez the wrong way.
Chelsea then fought back in the second half, as Nicolas Jackson pulled one back after beating the offside trap. Liverpool immediately hit back through Jones, who got on the end of a magical Salah cross before poking the ball past Sanchez.

2-1 read the final score as Liverpool leapfrogged Manchester City to reclaim top spot. The Cityzens briefly sat at the top after their late 2-1 win over the Wolves. The struggle to keep the top position will only continue hereafter.
Arne Slot is not impressed with refereeing as Liverpool claims important win
Many see Arne Slot as one of the calmest and most composed managers in the Premier League. The Dutchman appeared animated on the touchline as match officials made several ‘questionable’ calls throughout the game. Clips on social media show the manager falling to his knees, angrily protesting several decisions made by the match officials throughout the game.
To begin with, there is a viral clip of Darwin Nunez being penalized for what appears to be a fair challenge against an opposition player. That said, Slot etched his name in history as the first Liverpool manager in history to win 10 out of his first 11 games at the club! He is only second to Pep Guardiola himself in terms of the fewest games needed to reach ten wins.
Crying man these refs have turned Slot into Klopp ?

With 21 points from a possible 24, Liverpool is comfortably in the driver’s seat as of now. The Reds play their next game against RB Leipzig in the Champions League before facing Arsenal in a blockbuster clash in the Premier League. Rivals Manchester City are close behind with 20 points from their first eight games. Despite being the only unbeaten side in the Prem, Guardiola’s men have drawn two of their games.
