Liverpool boss Arne Slot provided an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury, informing the media about the player’s recovery and return to fitness. The Reds’ vice-captain is set to make his return to the side ahead of the much-awaited Merseyside derby.
Trent Alexander-Arnold injured himself during Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth, a fortnight ago. He suffered a thigh injury, which kept him out of action for the club’s next two matches, which included a 4-0 EFL Cup win over Tottenham and a shock 1-0 FA Cup exit against Plymouth Argyle. In Alexander-Arnold’s absence, Conor Bradley started at the right-back position, and impressed with his display.
Ahead of their next Premier League outing against city-rivals Everton, manager Arne Slot confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is back to fitness, and is in contention to play. He informed the media that the club’s vice-captain did take part in training sessions. However, Slot mentioned that he will decide whether to take the risk of playing Alexander-Arnold right after his return.
Trent did part of a training session with us yesterday so let’s see how he is today. He will hopefully train with us again and then we’ll decide whether we take him to the game.

Arne Slot has been careful with his players this season, as Liverpool leads in the Premier League title race. He has not pushed his players too far, to give them enough time to recoup. Against Plymouth in the FA Cup, the Reds also suffered another major blow. Center-back Joe Gomez had to be taken off just 10 minutes into the match. He limped off the pitch due to a feared hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold, who is rumored to depart the club next summer to join Real Madrid, will be hoping to make an early return. Following their match against Everton, the Reds next face Wolverhampton, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle this month.
Liverpool and Everton set to play the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park
Everton will play its 120th Merseyside derby against Liverpool, which is set to be its final one at their historic home, the Goodison Park. The Toffees will leave their home stadium of 133 years, to play at the newly built Bramley Moore Dock.

From the beginning of the 2025-26 season, Everton will play two miles south west of their traditional base. At their last Merseyside derby, the atmosphere is expected to be ramped up even more than usual. The stadium has been Everton’s home since 1892. Interestingly, the club played at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium prior to that.
