Liverpool banish their away form demons as Crystal Palace torn apart at Selhurst Park in Roberto Firmino show
Liverpool were playing away with the jersey in which they were defeated by Aston Villa 7-2 and there were some tension before the match. However everything was put to rest as Liverpool went full throttle and destroyed Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. This is simultaneously Liverpool’s biggest away victory since 1896 and Crystal Palace’s biggest lost at home!
Goal difference skyrockets upwards for Liverpool
Liverpool had a negative goal difference when Aston Villa defeated them 7-2 at Villa Park. Climbing back from that took a lot of time while Tottenham kept notching up goals. Today Liverpool have taken back the goal difference stats as they sunk Crystal Palace. They were trailing Tottenham for three weeks because of an inferior goal difference and now no longer need to.
Takumi Minamino ensured Liverpool got off to a flying start and got his first goal for Liverpool in the Premier League. Crystal Palace kept threatening them after Liverpool scored but Liverpool struck again through Sadio Mane. He twisted and turned and fired home from a Bobby Firmino assist. The first half ended in a sensational counter-attack as Andy Robertson raced forward from his half and then laid a beautiful pass for Roberto Firmino. The latter took a divinely smooth touch and put the ball past Vicente Guaita’s reach.
Second half turns into a horrible nightmare for Crystal Palace
It’s not to say that the first half was any good for them since they were trailing from the 3rd minute. However three goals within the first half took the game away from them, but teams have come back from far worse than that. However Mohamed Salah was introduced in the second half and the match was turned on its head. He got an assist and then scored two goals in three minutes as Liverpool finished off Crystal Palace within 90 minutes of time.
Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah (twice) scored more goals than in the first half. The ones who captained Mohamed Salah in their Fantasy Premier League (including me) will rejoice with the points he has got today! Liverpool punished Crystal Palace at every opportunity they got and looked to do more too. Returning players Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put in the performances like they’ve not gone at all. It is simply too scary to think what is going to happen when Virgil Van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota return from their injuries!
