Liverpool’s title race hit a massive roadblock as they lost to Crystal Palace at home. A goal thanks to Eberechi Eze ensured Crystal Palace left Merseyside with three points in the bag, helping Manchester City and Arsenal.
Liverpool looked threatening throughout the entire game, but failed to slot the ball past Dean Henderson. The English keeper faced 6 shots on target and made five saves. Along with that he made 10 recoveries, which came in handy for the Eagles.

Liverpool’s forwards struggled in front of goal. They had 2.87 expected goals from their 21 shots, but missed all their 4 big chances. Palace had a chance to double their lead in the 17th minute, just four minutes after scoring, but were denied by a great goal line clearance by Andy Robertson.
This loss gives Arsenal and Manchester City a huge boost in the title race. Before the start of the game week, Liverpool were 2nd but now dropped to third, with a possible gap of three points on the top if Arsenal beat Aston Villa. A win against Luton Town also ensured City overtook the Reds, as they now lead by two points.
Rival fans enjoy Liverpool’s loss as they go further from the title
Many rival fans were happy Liverpool lost their clash with Crystal Palace. They celebrated the loss by mocking them on social media. Manchester United fans were happy their former keeper, Dean Henderson, played a part in their rival’s loss. Many were happy Jurgen Klopp could go without any major trophy in his final season as well.

Many referenced how Palace stopped Liverpool from winning the title, just like they did in 2014. The match, now known as Crystanbul, was when Liverpool failed to defend a three-goal lead against Palace and drew the match. This led to Manchester City winning the league by two points.

Now Liverpool face Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League Quarter Finals. They lost the first leg by three goals, and now have a hill to climb to reach the semi-finals. After that they play Fulham at Craven Cottage on the 21st of April. Liverpool will need their rivals to drop points and a miracle and beat Atalanta as well to make sure Jurgen Klopp leaves the club with trophies in hand.
