Liverpool’s glaring need for a proper No.9 brought to the fore with Roberto Firmino’s misgivings
Behind Roberto Firmino is an extremely ineffective Divock Origi and this could compound Liverpool’s problems if they don’t sort this out by signing a new striker in the summer

Liverpool put in a really good attacking performance yesterday as Sheffield United was broken down in multiple occasions. With a win yesterday, Liverpool boosted their top 4 chances and will fancy an upset against Chelsea this Thursday as both the teams clash. With the title out of their hands and only a miracle capable of allowing them to retain their maiden title, Liverpool will be putting all their effort and energy to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Liverpool need a pure No.9 who can score goals when given the chance and replace their false 9

Under every manager Liverpool have had, there was a proper striker who brought in the goals for Liverpool. Rafael Benitez and Roy Hodgson had Fernando Torres, Brendan Rodgers had Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, but Jurgen Klopp has had none. Barring Christian Benteke who was never in form an injured Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings, Jurgen Klopp has never had a proper 9. Roberto Firmino has always played as a false 9 and was never an out and out striker.

Against Sheffield United, Roberto Firmino had the opportunity to bury the ball into an open goalpost in the first half. However he chose to pass the ball to Sadio Mane, allowing the Sheffield United defenders to recover and make the crucial block. Any other striker-even of the quality of Andy Carroll or Christian Benteke or even Divock Origi for the matter would have opted to score from there. Roberto Firmino’s lack of confidence is hindering Liverpool and signing a proper No.9 will help them immensely.

Fortunately Liverpool were able to create more chances and scored a couple of goals as Curtis Jones and an own goal from Kean Bryan allowed them to win. Roberto Firmino missed a couple of sitters in the first half and as someone said, any other striker and the scoreline would’ve read 4-0.
