After remaining ‘dormant’ for the majority of the summer transfer window, Liverpool got to work selling and bringing in players towards the end. From Fabio Carvalho on loan to Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili, the club have made important signings to the squad. However, a player recently spoke up about how his desire to move away from the club was ‘denied’ by the management.

Liverpool had a problem at their hands when first choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker was sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Up stepped Irish shot stopper Caoimhin Kelleher. The player made 10 appearances in the Premier League last season while also guarding the net on eight occasions in the Europa League.

However, despite his best efforts, Liverpool still stuck to Alisson as their first choice. To make things worse for him, the club have also signed Giorgi Mamardashvili as a potential successor to the Brazilian.

The 25-year-old recently guarded the sticks for Ireland as they lost 2-0 to England. He will also start the game against Greece on Tuesday night.

At both teams, I'm still the big leader and I want to remain like that for the next two years. I am human, I have emotions too.

Van Dijk also clarified that his reaction at the Euros was purely emotional and that going on vacation helped him a great deal. The defender is convinced that he is still important for both club and country. Besides, a departure to the Saudi Pro League will most likely result in Ronald Koeman shutting the door on the player. A previous instance of the same would be the Barcelona legend’s reaction to Steven Bergwijn leaving Ajax to play for Al-Ittihad.
