Liverpool tear apart Arsenal as Jurgen Klopp’s men look for a resurgent return

Liverpool

Liverpool put three past a hapless Arsenal defence on their return to the Premier League on Saturday night. Diego Jota scored twice and Mohammad Salah got on the scoresheet for the Reds. This is the highest away win for Liverpool against Arsenal.

Diego Jota on fire for Liverpool

Diego Jota came off the bench for Liverpool to score two extremely important goals. The first was a result of a lovely curling ball from right back Trent Alexander Arnold into the box. This was latched onto by the Portuguese forward who fired in a bullet.

The second came after Sadio Mane did all the hard-work to turn and twist the ball into his own path but just as he was about to release a shot, Diego Jota lashed onto the ball and smashed it home. Two goals and a man of the match performance. Jota admitted that winning the Premier League was not possible but they must look to get positive results in their remaining games.

Mohammed Salah scored a goal as well much due to his own efforts. He wriggled away from a Gabriel tackle and then calmly stroked the ball in between Bernd Leno’s feet to get on the scoresheet. Diego Jota has now scored four times against Arsenal- that’s the most against any other Premier League. It’s fair to say he loves to play against the Gunners.

For us, it was a very important statement for us because we need to show that we fight for it. We cannot only talk about it, we have to show it on the pitch and we did that, especially with the way we defended tonight. If we defend like [we did] tonight then we are difficult to break down and if we are difficult to break down, we have a good basis to play good football – and that’s what we did tonight, that’s why it was so important.

In our situation it’s clear, with all the things that happened to us in the past in this season, [they] brought us in a position where we don’t have it in our hands. We have to win our games and somebody else has to lose because we don’t play most of them anymore, but we have to make pressure on them and that’s what we did tonight with the result.

We are still not in the end of the season or finished; Everton can pass us, West Ham can pass us and all these kind of things, so we have to fight and that’s the statement for us and nobody else.
